I bought a brand new one a couple of weeks ago. Had some initial problems getting the scope properly aligned but solved that with Burris Signature rings with off-set inserts.
I had quite a revelation at the range. Despite a rough trigger it was outshooting my Weatherby Mark XXII and my CZ Scout. I took it back to the range today just in case the first trip was a fluke. Nope, same results!
I shot eleven different brands of ammo, ranging from cheapo American Eagles to Eley Tenex EPS. It was hard to find a brand that the gun didn't like. The best was Wolf Match Extra, shooting pencil eraser sized groups at 25 yards. It was a nice surprise when Winchester Superex HPs shot almost as well ($2.69 per box). The only two that didn't group well were Stingers and Fed 510's. I was disappointed to find that I had no Velocitors with me. Maybe next time.
Through about 300 rounds there was only one failure to fire, and that round fired on the second try. No failures to feed or eject.
It's gonna be worth it go get a trigger job for this gun.
Not too shabby for a semi auto. smile

Cron: Thanks for the review of the 552 Remington.
Good job there and good for Remington making the accurate autoloader.
To tell the truth I have not been around one of these Remington as yet, and I appreciate your information.
I like the tubular magazine and the 870 style safety (crossbolt type) - there is a good over-view of the 552 on Remington's web site.
They list $536.00 as the MSRP - if you don't mind could you give me a real world price range for these Rifles.
Thanks again.

VarmintGuy,
My dealer had them marked at $489.00 but sold it to me for $439.00.
This is my second one. My older one is 25 years old and just as reliable.

Here's the new one, covered in powder residue after an extensive workout.

...I have a 552 also, but recently gave it to my 1st born son. I do still have two 550 Remington's that either of which print nickle sized groups at 50 yards with favored ammo. My Remington Nylon 66 also shoots very well when benched really tight in bags (horrible trigger steals it's potential otherwise)....My most accurate 22 auto-loader is an HK model 270. The HK has the best trigger I've ever found on an auto-loader, and prints dime sized 50 yard groups from the bench with Wolf match ammo...
