All-
My wife and I are working a nursing assignment (both RN's) in Casper Wyoming until late October. Looking to buy a tag over the counter when the go on sale 8-15-08. I am looking for suggestions on areas (specific zones) and possibly names/numbers of ranchers who are looking for ethical hunters to come and help with the antelope population on their ranches. After going to the Wildlife department, it looks like high tag numbers will be available in zones 25,26, and 29. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Trying to do some homework/legwork on this and put the hunt together. Will be doing the hunt solo. Plan on using my trusty 30'06. Thanks to all for any help.

Make sure to check out the Hunter Management Areas for those zones. I've had very good luck getting onto private ground with these and it'll save you a few phone calls. Some of the ones I'm aware limit the number of permission slips for the first week or two of the season, but then open up for unlimited slips the rest of the season. However, you have to have a tag first before getting the permission slips.

Below is the link to the website. IMO, WY has done a great job getting the general public on the private land. Kudos!

PS- Do you and your wife do the traveling/contract nursing thing?

Area 73 is north and west of Casper. Surplus tags have been available in previous years. The area near Natrona west of Casper has lots of BLM land and lots of antelope.

I have hunted 26 with left over tags, a Delorme Atlas and a GPS. I have had excellent success hunting the patchwork of State Land Trust and Walk in Access areas. It takes a bit of driving around as the antelope love to leave the area quickly.

Area 47 usually has a lot of left over doe-fawn tags, and lots of public land. You also may want to look at Area 32.
