Well, MANOFTHEWEST, you know that old saying on rearing kids, don't you?

"As soon as a kid is born, you put it in a large barrel and feed it through a bung hole. When the kid reaches 18, you plug up the bung hole."

I believe that originated with Dr. Spock.

Works every time.

I like the saying; "If I'd known how much fun grandkids are, I'd have had them first". Still, I'd rather not have them living with me.

I have five kids and 9 Grand-Darlings. I raise enough meat chickens in the summer to put at least 50 in everyone's freezer. I keep at least a dozen doe rabbits busy crankin' out at least 500 total fryers a year to divide among the kids. My boy and I killed six deer this year and put one in every freezer. I keep 50 laying hens for eggs to give the kids, two dozen geese for eggs and meat to give the kids, goats for milk and meat to give the kids, and plant an acre of potatoes every year for everyone.

I take the Grand-Darlings out in a sled behind my ATV on snowy weekend days. This spring I'm building a 2/3rds scale Trade Gun for one of my Granddaughters who wants to learn to hunt.

H#LL, I live for my kids and Grandkids. What else does a man have but family?

I thought it was Mark Twain. When a child turns 12 nail him in a barrel and feed him through the hole. When he turns 16 plug the hole.

It may be because these aren't blood. Its was, I hate to admitt, a different feeling when my daughter brought one home.

After a while it got to where I don't even think about it, the more I growl and quarrel, the more the rugrats cling to me. I'm the only one, on either side of the family, that spanks them, makes them be polite in public or demands chores. Like I said, the more I push 'em the tight they hang.

I've got one grandson who LOVES to shoot. There isn't much that could tickle me more!
On the other hand, his little brother is always into something, and is a real pain in the azz. Can't seem to warm up to this kid. I'm hopeing he'll out-grow being a hellion.

One more thing, 'bout having a grandson whom likes guns and shooting....Gives me peace of mind about who to leave some firearms to, when I pass on.
