The next morning the eyes were on us. Another family. Axl had to swim and I had to straddle logs. Not sure which was less-fun. Few critters along the way. Getting the scowl. Somebody is ready for waterfowl season. Bugs were pretty bad, but the scenery kept me sane.

Almost to the top. A little break along the way. Flies are getting pretty tough on Ax's nose. Mountain dog. Back to the bottom where we intended to camp. Bugs were no fun, so we hiked back out to the trailhead. Long day, but big fun.

Tyler, I think I found some pretty good areas to find a billy in October. Invite is still there for a pack mule if you have the time. REALLY nice... thanks for sharing. As for axl's disposition, he is well mannered unless he whacks you to death with his tail.

Ha! the tail-whack is definitely in the DNA of most every Lab I've ever been around. BTW, poor Axl looks a bit pooped in a few of those pics! One time two other friends and I did a trip in The Bob... one friend brought his 10 mos old lab "Buck". I'm sort of a fast walker and usually manage to find myself a couple miles ahead of whoever I hike with. Anyway, Buck would hike with me for a while, then run back down the trail to my friends, hike with them for a while, then run back up the trail to hike with me. Basically, for every mile we hiked young Buck did three... after the hike in, he lay in camp for two full days before we could get him interested in life again

Brad, he was a little sore after our trips, but he loved every minute of it. I drew a goat tag back in 2000 and he accompanied me nearly 11 miles into the Absaroka's to find my goat. He did a great job behaving at 8 months and was my sole companion. I was hoping we could try it again this year. Although he will be invited to anymore scouting trips, I think his last mountain goat hunt has already occurred.

Real nice pictures, Miller, thanks for sharing. I hear you about the bugs, I cut my scouting trip short this weekend because of them.
Good luck in October, Carl

Mt-many thx for sharing man, those are some great pics and I know of a place or two up your way where Axl and I could really pound heck out of the ditch pigeons and the sky carp!
Cool pics!

Goodness gracious but that is an outstanding trip report! I am really itching to get out with the dogs. Too warm right now. You know, you've reminded me to start keeping an eye on the dogs' ears, it is about that time. I use either SWAT or Repel-X from the feed stores, applied about once a week. It is made for horses but works great on dogs. I prefer an oily lotion like Repel-X to a grease as it does not goop up the fur so much.

Looks like one heck of a ramble. Beautiful country you've got there. Thanks for the pics.
