I just bought a Winchester 62A and would like to add a peep sight. I googled them and the only thing I could find is a Lyman and in the comment section on Midway USA some one wrote that the threads are not corect for the 62A and to find an origonal one.
So anyone got one, or know where to get one?
Thanks
PP

Thanks Bill! I have been googling my azz off and coming up empty.
Have you tried any of these?

Have you tried any of these? I have several of these mounted on lever guns, 1885 single shot rifles and one on my Winchester model 62A 22 rifle. I like them really well, even with my old eyes! Bill

Thanks Bill, did the screws fit on you're 62A or did you need to tap the hole? I also put a post on rimfirecentral.com and there there saying I need to tap one or both of the holes and that it will hurt the value.
Was this the case with you?

I put the marbles sight on about 1960. If I remember right, the screws fit perfectly.
I would call marbles and ask them about having to retap the screw threads...!
Marbles will probably have the proper sight and sight screws, if you ask them, mentioning the rifle is a Winchester model 62A. For that matter so could Brownells if you talk to them.

If you want to go low-budget, Taurus manufactured tang sights as well, though they are now discontinued. I posted about them on this forum elsewhere. The drawback is you have to find an extended tang screw someplace else.

I called the guys at Marbles today and they said the screws should fit fine, there was a bit a mix up at Brownells however where I needed to order the sight from, so I had to order 2 different sets of screw, figure I will just return the ones that wont fit.
Thanks for the info Stillwater!!

Thanks for the info Stillwater!! It makes me feel good to be able to help a fellow shooter. Sometimes when a tang sight is fitted to the tang, it will appear to lean to one side. That isn't a fault of the sight, it just means that the curvture of the tang isn't spot on. little strips of shim stock will shim the tang sight perfectly erect. I have had to do this once myself... Thanks Bill, I will watch for that upon install. What did you use for shims?

Slices from an aluminum beverage can will work also. That's what I used on my 62A and tamg sight. Virgil B.

Got the peep on and it really bring's the accuracy to a new level. No shimms required, did need to shorten the screws a bit to get them to fit just right, but they were the very rare, but correct 10-36 thread.
Thanks to all who helped out, especially Bill, with the info.

Now you have returned the favor to me, by informing me the screws are a 10-36 thread... I needed to know that. I hope you really get the enjoyment out of your Winchester 62A... Bill
