A friend of mine who hunts fairly often in Africa, attended the SCI convention in Austin, Texas, last week. He said he talked with the people at the Blaser booth, who showed him an innovative new Blaser double rifle, which will be made in calibers like .450 and .500 N.E., etc. Says the price will be in the $7,700 range. He really liked it.
That's all I know as I haven't seen it.
Blaser will be at the Reno SCI, so if anyone goes, look 'em up.

If you don't need one in a true African-type caliber, then EAA distributes the Russian-made Izmash side by side rifle for around $500-550. And it can be had in .45-70, which could be loaded to dangerouns game levels. I have no idea on the quality of this gun, but some of the other Izmash stuff I've handled has been pretty well made for the price. Of course it won't touch any of the other doubles mentioned here for beauty, fit, etc, but for the money, I think this one is kind of intriguing. At least it fits in the every-man budget category. http://www.eaacorp.com/firearms/rifles/sidebyside/izhmp221t.shtml

Leanwolf, Blaser also makes a drilling which the factory told me by email can be supplied with all three barrels in 9.3x74R. Don't know the cost but probably pretty cheap per barrel.

FWIW, I have an EAA IZH-94 combination gun, 12 over 6.5x55, and I think that it has few, if any, endearing features. I would never recommend anythng made by EAA. I have shot a few of the old Winchester 101 o/u rifles and combination guns and they are far superior to anything out of EAA. I certainly wouldn't hunt with my EAA, unless it was the only thing I had. Better than a rock, club, or sharp stick, but not by much. EAA is to firearms what AMC was to fine automobiles.
4-sale: EAA IZH-94, 12 gauge over 6.5x55, $225!

...if you are truly interested in purchasing a double, i would highly recommend acquiring as much information as possible (books, nitroexpress.com, phone calls, etc.) over the next year, and then taking some time to visit the next sci convention in january 05 (most likely reno again, although sometimes held in las vegas)...
...hundreds of doubles both new and used in all calibres and at all price points...plus world-renowed double experts for you to chat with...

While perusing a recent Shotgun News, I found an EAA double rifle that was very reasonable in price. It's made by Baikal in a variety of medium rifle calibers and 45-70. Their website does a better job of describing it. http://www.eaacorp.com/firearms/rifles/sidebyside/izhmp221t.shtml I've long had a yen for a double but don't have enough dollars for them; as a retired military guy couldn't quite justify one. batch
