I estimate 75% of my hunting time is alone. I miss the company when the animal hits the ground.

I like both and do both. Deer hunting is my alone time. Duck hunting and hog hunting is a good time with the buddys.

For Deer - alone

For Elk - with at least one more guy.

I'm part of a party of 3 that go on extended hunt together (1 to 4 weeks). We camp together, but seldom see one another between 05:30 and 19:00. If we're out in big sky country we may spot one another on an opposing ridge. I see no downsides but do enjoy sharing experiences, camp tasks, and having the knowledge that if one or another does not come in by noon the next day, someone will go out looking.

Unless I'm guiding (obviously) or trying to help a rookie or someone who has a really good attitude (probably means willing to do it my way), I prefer hunting alone. Flexibility and silence as well as reasons mentioned by others apply.

I might go with Thread Killer if I thought he'd listen. grin

Dial-up, plus different from the original thought.

Dogs are the only animals that naturally hunt in packs.

The only person I normally hunt with is my dad and brother. We hunt the same way and enjoy the same things, so it works out.

And they're the only people, other than me, that I'd like to see with a big buck while we're hunting together.

As most of the time our only choice here is to hunt on quite big groups and I like to stalk alone, something between me and the game, I'd rather hunt alone (big game, for small games I do prefer small groups from 3 to 10 hunters).

You're right, and I actually had a disclaimer about lions added, but bagged it.

There are always exceptions, but I like that line and have used it quite a bit. Lived it, too.

But what struck me; lions are the only felines that hunt in... prides, right? Otherwise most cats go solo, also.

1minute,
Those are are successful hunters, but others that hunt alone are cougar, leopard, eagle and alligator.

Personally, I like to hunt alone and share camp with some friends. But then I can't always get friends to hunt where I want, so sometimes I use an outfitter operating in a certain area.

Most of the time I hunt alone but it isn't becuse I don't have pads that I like to hunt with. Most of the time I decide to go on short notice and most of the guys I hunt with need more then a few minutes warning. Hunting/camping alone definitely has its pluses but so does having good company along. I've done a few solo out of state hunting trips and I've always ended up hunting with locals for at least some of the trip, made some great friends.

I have always hunted pretty much by myself, seems to be alot
of hassle to get everyone on the same sheet of music, people
not wanting to stay on stand, not being quiet, telling other
people about the area you hunt in, etc.
