I'm going to sight my .308 BLR, with its new trigger, in tomorrow. I have two boxes of ammo to try; 150 grain Remington core-lokts and 150 grain Winchester power points. Beyond finding out which the Browning may like more than the other, which of these two have you had better luck with deer in terms of bullet performance? Are there any other factory loads I may want to try?
Appreciate your opinion.

Get a box of Federal Power-Shok (blue & silver box) and a box of Hornady Custom. They are the equal of the two loads you have. In my opinion there is no difference in performance between the four - I have used all of them with the same results - dead deer. Stick with the one that groups the best in your rifle.

Never used PP's in a .308, but they have worked great in the other calibers I've used.

PP's are better.

CL's are cheaper.

Both are plenty good enough for deer.

Hmm. Go with the one yer bullet launcher likes best. White tails ain't cape buff. All of those cartridges are long proven venison makers.

Don't forget to try the Federal Fusion. IF I were limited to factory loads in a .308, I would shoot these or the high energy Hornady stuff.

+1 On the FUSION ammo. These things fly better out of my rifles than anything until I started reloading.

If you don't reload, go with the one that shoots best from your rifle. ANY of the factory fodder out there will kill anything in North America if you do your part. The cheap stuff in the green and yellow boxes from Walmart (Remington) kills countless critters every year. And I wouldn't hesitate to use it myself if it shoots well enough in my gun. In fact, I have. Often. I rarely bother to reload .30-30, and the much-maligned 150 grain load from them has never failed to drop any deer I hit with it. The .308 will do the same. If you are planning a hunting trip, be sure to buy several boxes from the same lot. Practice with some, and save some for the actual trip.

Good advice here - if it doesn't like the PP's, give the Fusions a try - best shooting factory ammo I've used.

Haven't shot anything with them, but I would echo the accuracy of the Fusion rounds. (in .30-06 anyway)

I'd also go with Hornady Customs or Fusions. I've had great luck with customs in .270 Win and 25-06. And I'd take PP'S over the Core-Lokts as I've had not so great performance with them.

Fusions are great in my .243, but after pricing them this weekend at 39.99 a box, forget it. CL are $15 at Wal-Mart. The sad thing, I paid $15 last year a box for the Fusions.

Whoa!!! You mean to tell me that you can buy ammo thats already loaded?? laugh

If you can afford it, Federal also loads their premium line with a Partition. They're spendy, but I've been killin' critters with Partitions for a long time and they've never let me down.
