I used to shoot this bullet in a 1-12 twist 308 with around 45 grains of IMR 4895. Real accurate load. Don't have the 308 anymore but I have a lot of the bullets left that I don't want to waste and a 1-10 twist 30-06. I'm going to try the same load with more powder but because of the faster twist and shorter bullet I'll be surprised if it shoots as well as the 1-12 twist 308 did.

I've got a lot of different kinds of powder. Anyone got a good proven powder for a 125 gr. bullet in a 30-06 if my IMR 4895 dosent work? Thanks.

Surprisingly, I got a load out of an older reload manual.. I think it was a Sierra for their 125 bullet...

but the powder was W 748.. like 60 grains of it... out of a 22 inch barrel it chrono'ed at the 3500 fps the book indicated it would...

For deer season this year.. 14 y/o seafire jr, is carrying an 06, and the load I worked up for our woods hunting ranges, has been 25 grains of SR 4759...and a 125 grain BTip..

out of a Browning ABolt, that load and also the same with a 125 grain TNT, both have been one hole shooters at 100 yds..3 shots is yielding a hole about the size of a 338 to a 375 hole...

that is the best groups that rifle ever put out!

I recommend you do not use that 125gn TNT bullet for deer sized game as it tends to take all the punch out of the .30/06. I tried it and gave it away preferring the Speer 130gn HP for a light bullet. Shot very well too.

I'm thinkin'some IMR 4064 might not be a bad choice.

AGW,

Appreciate it, but on these little bitty blacktails around here at the 2400 fps the load yields, it actually works pretty darn good.... it has to do with availability...

have had a couple taken with it to know it works well..

also have some 125 grain ballistic tips on deck also...

the Speer 130 is a fine bullet also... but you have to mail order those and the TNTs are on the shelf.. driving force in selection..

I might be a stick in the mud. But for light bullets in the 30-06, old reliable IMR 3031 has always worked very well for me.

Id/Shooter,

I wouldn't call that a stick in the mud.. for velocity and accuracy, that is a darn good choice...can't go wrong with that, 4064 or 4895...

RE 15. With 4.32 CC mine shoots about 1 inch @ 200 yds, 1 inch high @ 100 yds, and about 4.5 inches low @ 300 yds. I don't know, but looking at traj charts it looks like about 3500 fps? I know, it seems like a lot but that's what it does. So much for 20-30 fps extra per inch from 25 inch barrel...

I use RL15 for 110 VMax, 130 TTSX, and 155 Scenar in the 30-06 with very good results. Should be good for the 125gr too.

Here's some of my notes that might help interpolate a load for the 125BT.

30-06 Reload Data

--------------------------------
Hornady 110gr V-Max, moly'd
Brass: Norma
OAL 3.20"

59.0 gr - 3195 fps
60.0 gr - 3255 fps
61.0 gr - 3315 fps

Lapua 155gr Scenar, moly'd

Thanks for the load data. What kind of accuracy are you getting with the 110 VMAX?

Thanks to everyone else that replied. Looks like RL15's the favorite. I'll give it a try.

Varget & RL15 would top my list, but about a dozen powders would give good speeds I bet. 4064, 4895, 4007ssc, 748, 3031 and so on
