I have a Marlin 25, of which I am fond since it was my first firearm, but she just don't shoot worth a darn (about 1" @ 25 yards). I've been shoving Remington lr's down her throat, until it dawned on me that maybe she just hates Remmy ammo. I've asked TLee for his opinion several times regarding Marlin's since he has two darn fine shooters. I never thought she wouldn't like it ... my 10/22's digest this ammo and poop nice groups. Any suggestions on what those micro-groove barrel like to eat?
Mine like the Winchester Dynapoints and believe it or not CCI Blazers, (but darn they are dirty)Also shoots the Velocetors real tight when I am doing some serious shooting at critters.

Thanx guys! I went down to the local shoppe yesterday and picked up some mini-mags and CCI standard velocity, they were sold out of the all their winchester ammo. Might have to check the other shop in town or head on down to Wally's and see what they have on the shelf. Again, Mucho thanks!
I have several Marlin 22's and none of them seem to like Remington Ammo. I have quit buying it. Try some CCI GreenTag or similar target velocity ammo. I have found that the Winchester X-pert bulk stuff from Wal-mart shoots great also. I stay away from the high/hyper velocity stuff as it never does real well for me. Winchester PowerPoints are good too.
Don't give up on that Marlin, just try some different ammo.
I'm unable to speak for the Marlin, since I have not owned a Marlin .22 for many, many years. However, I have at present no less than 6 22 rimfires. They all vary as to likes/dislikes, but I have noticed one interesting thing. All will shoot the Winchester Dynapoint quite well. Why, I do not know, but my 2 Mossbergs shoot it into .3-.4" at 50 meters, My 513T Remington does a bit better with it. My 541T Sporter is an honest .25" rifle with it, and only shoots a couple of types of ammo better. The other two both have iron sights, and my eyes are old enough that this is a handicap for good groups, but Dynapoints still cluster very well in these. The other "sleeper" ammo in my guns is PMC Target, but I have found that you get an occasional "flyer" with a different sound in this choice, so have gone to weighing all loaded ammo and sorting it if I'm serious about groups with it. Lapua match ammo is my choice with the 541 in competition. Attachment is a few sample 5-shot groups. Regards, EE.

I have also found Remington 22 ammo is not real accurate in any of my 22's, but the El Cheapo Federal bulk Hp stuff shoots well in most, and VERY well in a few others. Nine bucks a brick at Wally World, that's hard to beat! For shooting critters, my choice is the WW Power-Point, everyone who tries it says it shoots well. Which might be why it's nearly always sold out in my neck of the woods! Next time they get a shipment in, I'm gonna go down and stock up before the hoarders get there! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> Papajohn
Mine will put 10 cci standard velocity ( green box) inside one inch. It is topped with an old weaver 10 power AO with fine cross hairs. I use cci bb caps for the squirrels in my pecan tree. Have to shoot them through the lungs though. Sometimes head shots don't drop them right away. Go figure!
Federal Classic is pretty good too. Worth trying in any rifle. Costs about $13 a brick. But isn't bulk pack ammo. Packaged in their own little holder for each round.
When I buy a new .22 rimfire I also buy a 50 round box of several different brands of ammo. You never know which brand any one particular firearm is going to like.
My Ruger MK I groups best with Winchester solids, then Winchester hollow points, and CCI standard velocity. It didn't like any match ammo.
My BearCat loves Remington subsonics. It shoots them right on POI at 30 yards and groups them tight as well. The Winchester high velocity groups well but prints about 3 inches high at 30 yards. Which ain't bad for shooting jackrabbits.
My son's Marlin bolt rifle shoots just about anything, even the cheapest Federal bulk ammo. That's a good thing because those boys can go through a bunch of .22 ammo real fast.
After I determine which brand works best I buy it by the case. It never fails, if you don't the store will be out of your brand when you need it most.
