I'd like to introduce Ruger, my new English Setter pup. I picked him up on Wednesday morning. He has been quite a surprise. Since Wednesday, we have had 1 accident in the house. His crate training has been unbelievable. The first night, I put him in around 10:30pm and didn't hear a whimper out of him until I woke up the next morning. Last night was the same as the first night. He goes to his crate on his own to sleep. He's eating good and having a ball in his new home, especially with his new brother (my terrier/beagle mix). I got Ruger from Bob Watts at www.coverdogsetters.com . His father is Hard Call and his mother is Quixstar. 5x champion Pennstar is his grandfather on both sides. Some other notable names in his pedigree are Wire, Body Guard and Grouse Ridge Reroy. I'll let him have some fun for a couple weeks and then start working with him a bit, getting him used to birds.

Craig

He sure is a good looking pup, and sounds like he has the making to be a stud! Make sure to update on his progress.

Congrats. We just got a brown ticked 5 year old. I need a camera cable before I can introduce Lady Bird to the Campfire.

Let him be a pup and have fun for more than a few weeks. What is the rush? At his age you don't "work" him. Let him chase and bust birds and generally raise hell and get fired up about the whole deal. He is a little young to be worked, even a bit.

You "work" on the basic commands with him and when the time comes for bird work he wiil be ready.

Nice looking dog, congrats and wish you and Rugar many fun years together.

He has some good blood in his veins, the only one that can .... it up is probably you. Go slow.
