This season I wasn't planning on big game hunting because of work but now a friend has invited me on the Mule Deer hunt of a life time and I'm in a crunch to work a load up.
My dilemma is that I have a fresh/rebuilt Rem 700 with a Lilja 26" 1/11" Twist barrel on it. It's been fully "blue-printed" but is has not been shot yet.
I need some suggestions on working a load up with only a handful weekend days open between now and then.
I was thinking a for-sure bet would be a 180gr. Sierra GK and H1000, just because I have a lot of both and they are both have been very good components to me.
What do you think? Any others would be great to hear about.

Hunt of a lifetime....I'd be for taking an old and honest friend and not starting a new relationship.
But, dats just my way.
Have a super hunt!

My old honest friend got an upgrade and that is a true statement. But that's what I'm stuck with.

Gotcha, so it's a old friend with a new tube.
Seems to me I ran H1000 with 165 Sierra HPBT's and 200 Nozler Pt's in my last 300 win tube and it perked very well. Can't imagine why the 180's wouldn't do the same.

Well, if no one else chimes in it's a go.
I do appreciate your input.

I would load the 200gr AB for mule deer over the 180gr GK. From the reports I've read, the AB should be perfect for your deer hunt!

I'd get after the 200 Accu and H1K load, if it perks then I'd call it load developement done.

Hell, it's just a deer...either bullet will work fine.I'd grab the 180 Game King, start 3-4 grains under max, chrono as you go.When I hit 3050 or so,I'd stop and take the whole rig to 300-400 yards, and see what she does.Likely it'll be fine all blueprinted and so forth.
I like RL22 for that cartridge, but H1000 works good, too.
Good luck on your hunt!

I've had excellent results with 73 grains IMR4350 and the 165 grain Sierra. A little explosive up close but scary accurate.
The .300 WinMag seems to be a lot like the .308 Winchester in that it isn't really fussy. You have a premium tube, so that oughta make it even easier.

Like BobinNH said pick one and run with it. Friend shoots the 200 gr Accubonds in his 300 WM but that what it likes and it is his all purpose gun.

RL 22 worked great w/ NP's in my H&H.
It is not enough to fight for natural land and the west; it is even more important to enjoy it. While you can. While it's still there. So get out there and hunt and fish and mess around with your friends...
