A lever action in 45 Colt and a sidearm of your choice in the same would be awesome.

How's about a Ruger #3 Carbine, and an American Derringer, both chambered in 45-70? Now that ought ta be an amusing combo.

I have .357 Rossi and several revolvers to go with it,and I have Marlin,94 carbine in 44 mag. I prefer the 44 over the 45,just my prefernce though. They do make some nice 45 Colt Cowboys though

A lever gun in 45 Colt teamed with a handgun is an excellent combo espeacialy for large game when teamed with a 325 grain wide nose flat point hard cast of about 325 grains at 1300 FPS from the handgun and about 1600 FPS with the same ammo from the rifle barrel

I have a marlin 1894 in 44 mag with a 20 inch barrel. I had a marlin 44 mag with a 16 inch barrel and the "ports" for a few days. It looked cool but hurt my ears significantly. If I was hunting with a handgun I would wear hearing protection, and if I was buying a combo like you want I would just get a 45LC and reload for both of them.

Welcome to the campfire, Bushmill! 357 mag and 38 special is the most economical. Here's my dynamc duo. The ammo for these is everywhere.

What's your intended use?
If its for hunting, I would go with:
1. Marlin in .44 Mag, and a Ruger Redhawk.
2. Puma in .454 Casull and a Fredom Arms.

If for hunting a 45 Colt makes a lot of sense.
From Buffalo Bore;
Heavy .45 Colt +P
Item 3A: 325 gr. L.B.T.- L.F.N. (1325 fps / M.E. 1267 ft. lbs.)
Item 3B: 300 gr. Speer J.F.N. (1325 fps / M.E. 1170 ft. lbs.)
Item 3C: 260 gr. J.H.P. (1450 fps / M.E. 1214 ft. lbs.)
Item 3D: 300 gr. Speer J.F.N. (1200 fps / M.E. 959 ft. lbs.) (Loaded to shorter length 1.585 inch specifically for Freedom Arms Model 97 .45 Colt - Big game up to 800 lbs.)
These Heavy .45 Colt +P loads are safe in all LARGE FRAME Ruger revolvers. (includes Blackhawk, Super Blackhawk, all pre-2005 Vaquero, Bisley, Redhawk)
These Heavy .45 Colt +P loads are NOT intended for the New Model Vaquero (small frame).
These loads are also safe in all modern Model 1892 leverguns as well as all Winchester & Marlin 1894's

I have a couple of combos like you mention; Winchester M1892 & Ruger Blackhawk - both in .45 Colt. Marlin M1894 & Ruger Blackhawk - both in .41 MAG. I like carrying these "woods" combos on hunting trips in the swamps and thick stuff. The M1892 was one of the limited runs made in Japan about 10 years ago and is straight stock. The Marlin M1894FG is more practical; 20" barrel, had the receiver drilled and tapped for a Lyman 66 rear sight and put the Williams firesite on the front - great limited light woods carbine.

The 357 is a good choice. A Marlin 94 357 Mag and a good 357 sixgun is hard to beat. My Marlin is extremely accurate (I won't say how accurate or I'll be called a liar) and will push 158's over 1700 fps and 180 JHP's very close to that all with today's SAAMI specs and are very mild and easy to shoot. It can do more but there really is no need. They are economical to shoot and reload and a 357 in a rifle is a different animal than they are in a handgun. I have shot one buck with mine at about 80-90 yards and it dropped in it's track and the damage was extreme. I went from 158 Speer Mag-JSP's at 1700 fps to 180 Rem. SJHP at 1600 to see if it would minimize the damage but have not taken game with it since....I need to get around to that I guess.
If you want more power the 44 Mag or 45 Colt would both be good choices as well. I've had all three but settled on the 357.

44 mag and 45 colt are too close to call, but if you don't reload, the 44 mag will be a better choice for more availability of effective ammo...hard not to like a 44 mag for all it can do...but with the right loads, the 45 has an edge.

All the options have been listed except for a Ruger carbine in .40 S&W (discontinued) and a Smith and Wesson 610.
More importantly, welcome to the campfire.

10mm AR and a Glock or 1911 is a choice too.
I have a Ruger .44 Carbine and a 629-3 Mountain Gun.
