Here's a post that I started on another site. From what I hear the predator control is going better than expected up here in Alaska. You have to admire and respect someone who is willing to wreck their $70,000 Super Cub for a few wolves. That's what you call believing in the cause. Most real Alaskans agree with this. Those who are against this method of wolf control, have obviously never seen a wolf rip a caribou apart, limb by limb, while the Bou was still alive. Just so she could teach her young how to Kill! They may resemble a dog. But a dog they are not! I know a guy who dumped four of them last Wednsday.I just want to say "Thanks" to the Pilots who are risking their lives and planes everyday, on the way to reducing Alaska's wolf population. I thank you. Jay

What does this have to do with it? We're talking about multi-species population management. Don't turn it into the Big Bad Wolf who killed Bambi.

I saw your other post, and the "kill 'em all" comment.

Personally, I don't think Alaska would be the same were it devoid of all wolves.

Also, I wonder about your credentials for determining just who is and who isn't a "Real Alaskan".

That said, I sure would like to get in on the wolf shooting action! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Bears don't show up at the calving grounds of elk or caribou each year to cheer on the mothers...do they? Oh wait, they are their to eat the new babies. The salmon are becoming depleted, we better kill all the bears and save the salmon. Those darn bears eat up everything. We know man has nothing to do with the salmon problem. Coyotes never chase down fawns and eat them while they mew for their mother...do they? Wolves have been here longer than any of us. Man has done more to ruin hunting and habitat than any animal ever could. It is called nature and the wolves are part it. Why don't we just kill everything that eats game animals? Will that make you happy? That should fix everything. Good grief, educate yourself a bit on nature, biology and how all of it affects the echo sysytems around the world before popping off and looking like an ignorant fool. Flinch

I have read that it is off to a slow start.

I would never want the wolves eradicated thats just dumb.

[color:"blue"] I am glad it is underway because to me that is the best way to see if the program will work[/color]. Personally I believe the moose are grossly overhunted.

Wolf control in Alaska is Alaskas business. I don't care What out siders have to say. You want to bicth about it move up here. If not then shut the hell up. It's called wildlife management. There are places up here That also have to many moose for the area so hunting is open to any moose.
Do any of you know what happens when you have to many animal in one location. It's called starvation! Now some of you people Can say well thats how nature works. And as true as that is . We owe it to the wildlife to try and keep it balanced, since man is the major consumer of wildlife. I don't want to see any animal wiped out up here, but we have to have a balance.

A slow start? I know of at least 6 wolves taken last Wed. alone, by a single pilot. You must get your info from the liberal news. If you want the facts, talk to the pilots with the permits! If you haven't done that, you have no real info, and therefore are just responding to your emotions. Hey, I heard the Daily News is hiring!

Get a grip brother! You obviously have never dealt with wolves and what destruction they can do to game populations, in certain areas. They kill for fun, after their bellies are full. A wildlife biologist up here, came across 14 dead Dall Sheep, none of them eaten. Wolf tracks everywhere. They killed them for fun! I'm sure your wolf in the Zoo is well behaved, but if he ever escapes????

Gents,

Please! Remember we're all on the same side. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I wish more Campfire members lived close to me, so we could meet for coffee and even hunt together.

Calm down Dave! If you havn't noticed the "Wolf" has become the spokesman for anti-hunters. Even some hunters agree with not killing wolves. What they don't understand, is that this is just one step closer to stopping sport/meat hunting altogether. That is the final goal of the Anti's! Sorry, I didn't mean to piss in your Wheaties.

Amen Brother! I'm not trying to use Caribou as the primary reason for wolf control. It was just an example. Something that I have witnessed. Don't get bent out shape. We are on the same team!

I think 14 wolves have been killed so far, but none near McGrath, because the weather has not been good for flying. As you may know, it is near McGrath where at least 40 wolves are to be killed.

There is some information about the wolves in Alaska at the site below. For those of you who may not know about wolf control in Alaska, it is a similar program as those accomplished in the Canadian Yukon in past years. For years the residents of McGrath have been asking for help to curb the wolf population in that area, and finally, a Governor has responded.

Yes I found the article.

14 wolves in the nelchina basin out of 28 teams and these guys cant shoot from the planes.

None out of McGrath where the weather has been poor.

I hope these guys get the quota they are trying for so we can see if this is a viable solution to the low moose problem.
