I've been trying to get a hold of local ranges with no success and I was hoping someone who reads this might be able to point me towards somewhere I could access quickly to do some load work up during the week on a range. All I need is 100yards.
I'm new to the area and I don't know what is around.

You have to join Tri-County to have access. They only sign up new members once a month (second Wedneday of the month). So you're SOL there. They don't have a full time staff, so you usually just get the phone when you call. Here's their web site. http://www.tcgc.org/They have site in days going on right now, where they are open to the public. But its usually very crowded and you'll not be able to do any load working. Can you take a bench up into the coast range or Mt. Hood NF and do some work up in a clear cut there?

Douglas Ridge has sight-in on weekends. You might lurk at the gate and see if any of the members would be willing to take you in as a guest (guest charge is $5.00, I believe).
Great range and wonderful, down to earth, membership.

Perfect...That's what I was looking for. I've heard great things about both ranges and I would like to become a member of either.
Thanks again for the insight.

...I could do that Steve but I have no idea where to start to look for accessible clear cuts to shoot.

Not sure what side of town you're on, but there's a quarry along the Clackamas river that I hear people shooting at all the time (when floating it). Might look into it.
It in hwy 224. http://maps.yahoo.com/#mvt=h&lat=45.196673&lon=-122.179421&zoom=18&q1=Estacada%2C%20OR%2097023
Other than that, if you just drive around a bit in the woods, you'll find a spot.

when I was getting ready for a safari in RSA, I took archery targets up the Clackamas. Turned across the river at Fish Creek bridge and ran up the creek a bit. Nice clear cut and natural shooting conditions.
Killed all of my African critters with a single shot each, so it worked OK, I guess.
I don't know about the fire conditions up there right now. Cool and overcast today, but you never know.

Try Clark Rifles accross in Washington. Not too far and I think you can check the website to see when public shooting is allowed.

I wouldn't go "up the Clackamas" for shooting anymore. It's become the Portland criminal element's favorite spot for disposing of stolen cars. About ten years ago two men target shooting were shot to death in a rock pit off the Clackamas. At least one of their killers got the death penalty for it.
