Well I have never yet made a kill, or even taken a shot but my favorite experience so far is I was setting on the ground waiting for a whitetale to come along when this ruffed grouse came struting along and walked up to withen 3 feet of my foot when he took a good look into my eyes and decided he would just side step me. That was prety neet! 06

ought six,
I've had many great experiences while bowhunting in the past 26 years. The greatest???...I'm not sure where to start, but it's all good and I wouldn't trade any of them.
I like bowhunting in the late Spring and early Summer for groundhogs. When I'm out there at that time of the year, I get to see a lot of the first born animals, while there still in there exploring stages.
Good hunting, bowhunter57

Last night while on bear stand I had a squirrel run up my tree stand and then jumb into my lap. When he hit my soft clothing he knew someting was wrong, I never saw a squirrel go so fast. 06

my single best day w/ a bow was 2 seasons ago. i made it to my spot a little later than i would have liked, but i got out as fast and quiet as i could. i was sitting on the ground for about 15 minutes when a cottontail rabbit walked right up to me and began eating a couple of inches from my left leg. i almost started laughing! luckily, i didn't, because about 5 minutes after the rabbit got there a few deer started filtering out into the clearing i was watching. first a doe walked out, then a spike. a few minutes later another doe came out and then a 5-pointer came out. i was sitting there, on the ground w/ these deer anywhere from 10-20 yards in front of me and a rabbit by my left leg... the 5-point and the spike started to spar a little, and after shoving the spike around a little, the small buck walked away. then the 2 does started to leave (in another direction). the buck that was left started licking a branch. i came to full-draw. he stepped into a clear shooting lane and stopped, broadside. his right front leg was a little forward, offering me a shot. my heart was pounding, the adrenaline was flowing, and my mind was racing. i put my 20-yard pin on 'the spot', and when it was all right, i let the arrow go, and missed him cleanly over his back!! agony! the best buck i ever had a chance at w/ rifle or bow, and i cleanly missed him!
he's still around, though...i saw him about 6 weeks ago. he's a beautiful 6-point this year, and his rack is as symmetrical as it can be. bow-season opens in 3 weeks. with a lot of luck....

Few years ago I was sitting in the forks of a blowdown and watching the squirels run around. there was a a decaying long about 10ft from me and them little buggers were taking turns rubbing on it . They would twist and squirm and then lay down on thier bellies and push along the trunk with thier back legs. That's one of the best.....

Ever bowhunting experience is the best. I bowhunt and gun hunt; prefer bow because more challenge and this equates to better experiences.

My best. I had been bowhunting Army Corp of Engineer land near Montgomery Alabama for a few years - I knew the lay of most of the area like the back of my hand. Well during the summer they had come in w/a bulldozer and cleared out food plots (none of them were near my favorite spots). One extremely windy, cloudy and overcast Saturday with nothing to do I decided to head to my favorite spot and stalk the woods. It was so windy that in the deep woods that even the hartiest of the trees were swaying. I didn't see anything moving so I decided to look at the food plots. As I came up a logging road towards a food plot, I noticed a big pile of earth where they had cleared for the food plot. As I came up to the pile, I lowered and peered over it - 2 does at 35 yards (using my rangefinder) feeding quartering away from me!!!! I dropped back down and got rid of my fanny pack and any other item I had except for my bow. I was fully camoed.
I ssllllooooooooooowwwwwwlllllllllllllleeeeeeeeeyyyyyyyyy stalked around the pile. Low and behold there were 4 does, 2 had been behind a tree covered in spanish moss that was in the middle of the field and made their way out from behind!!!!! step by step, inch by inch with NO cover I was able to stalk w/in 20 yards before they had slowly feed their way into the thick growth along the edge. This was no easy task, my body ached for days after words. One doe would keep raising and lowering her head looking at me, but she never spooked. Each step was slow and methodical. Numerous times the doe would look at me when I had one leg raised to step and I would have to hold that position for a minute or two - but it felt like an eternity.
Never was able to go to full draw, nothing for their eyes to hide behind.

That day will FOREVER remain with me and optimizes what bowhunting is all about to me. Not the harvest, the challenge. It brings a smile to my face (and aches to my muscles!) ever time I think about it.

The past three years have been filled with great bowhunting experiences. Up until a few days ago, I hadn't taken a shot. I was starting to get a little discouraged, as I had found a picture perfect place for my stand, but the deer were going elsewhere. I arrived on my stand at about 6:30am, about a half hour later than usual. I got myself comfy, and enjoyed the darkness and the stillness of the farmplace. At about 7am, for the heck of it, I blew a very quiet grunt. Instantly, the buck appeared to my right about 20 yards away. I instantly lost my ability to breath while I prepared my bow. I got scared when the buck started to walk away from me, but kept my composure to let out another very soft grunt. The deer spun around and walked right in front of my at 10 yards. I drew and just tried to keep the green site pin where it needed to be. I released and the buck exploded through the farm and out of site. My initial reaction was that I had missed! After crawling down, I did not find my arrow, but found a few spots of bright red blood. I soon found the trail, which became very heavy. I also found the back half of my arrow, covered in bright red blood. I then saw him, laying about 60 yards out in the bean stubble. It was the greatest hunting experience I have ever had and the first deer I have ever taken. I was most proud of my arrow placement. A double lung shot finished off the animal quickly and made him very easy to find. I finished off the experience by cutting the deer up myself. I am hooked for life!!!

I would have to say my best bowhunting experience was on the first bow kill I ever made. I took my first whitetail deer at about 3 steps and I was on the ground with her. Yes it was a doe but it was one of those day's when everything finally came together. I was leaning against a tree with a limb hanging over to the ground that gave fairly good cover. The big doe just came walking by and after the shot went approx. 40 yards and fell. I know it was not a good buck but when your first deer with a bow is shot at 3 steps and you are not in a treestand it just does not get any better. Expecially after hunting several years before getting a good shot. I have taken numerous bucks and does since but that Doe seems to stick in my mind.
