Slickheadhunter ,

I was in the midst of answering a question you asked of me on marlin talk when it got shut down.
You said you have a camp in north NH in Colebrook & asked about mine & its location.
I'm in North Stratford, bout 18 or 20 miles south of Colebrook I guess.
What beautiful country! The contrast from where I live is unbelievable.
I am located on RT 3 right across the road from the CT river with views of the river into Vermont & Canada.
To me that place is paradise.
One of the biggest perks is the willingness of land owners to let others use the land for outdoor recreation. i.e. hunting, camping, fishing, hiking, snowmobiling, atving or just about any other outdoor activity you can imagine.
The lack of posted land took me awhile to get used to as I felt like a tresspaser. After talking to a couple locals & asking about hunting acess I found their general attitude was go ahead, knock yourself out. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> If its not posted you can hunt, fish all you want. So far I'v not got a deer up there, but its not for lack of trying. Its from lack of scouting as most of my time up there has been on building & other activities with the whole family. Also my oldest son is 7 & most times succeeds in getting me to let him tag along on my treks. While the time I spend with him in the woods is a treasure I will never regret, never the less its not conductive to actually getting game. Thats ok tho as in CT where I live theres so many deer you stumble over them & as I started bowhunting this year opertunities are everywhere here. Also, down here we have very liberal bag limits for deer. You get 2 either sex tags & 2 doe tags with your license & all the replacement doe tags you want till the quota is met. (Which never happens)

You ever get a Moose permit up there? I keep trying but so far havent had much luck. Seems Moose up there are like deer here in that you cant drive anywhere without seeing some.

About my camp, The building itself is built & the roof is on & windows in. Its mostly insulated but needs a bit more inside work before I can finish that part. The wood stove is in & it heats the place pretty well, I'v no doubt that once done it will be quite cozy whatever the weather outside. Gotta build a porch after that & maybe a well. The well might not happen tho as I'm not sure if I'm getting electricity or not. Theres a brook close by we get water for washing from & a campground close enuff for good water & they have a shower & other ammenities.
Havent been up since Nov because of many reasons but mostly cuz bow season goes thru the end of Jan & I was alot in the woods here.
Might go up next weekend depending on the weather & my finances.
Was up there last winter couple nights when it got down to 30 below 0 & we were very warm inside. My door is at this time just a piece of 3/4 plywood with a 2x4 frame & while it keeps out the snow & wind thjat piece of wood gets damn cold. We awoke to find almost an inch of frost on the inside of it & like I said it was warm in there(Walkin round in your drawers warm) so I guess that means it was cold outside. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
In the spring thru the fall I try going up every other weekend, but its a long drive + - 5 hours from here.
I'm trying to post a pic but I cant find the damn things in my PC.
Oh well, maybe we can get together sometime, for some hunting or just plain BSing.
