Copied and pasted this from the Outdoor Wire. I personally would have much rather seen them introduce something similar to the 9x39, guess I'll have to wait.

"Yesterday, the announcement of a new "30 Caliber Hunting System"- a new Remington R-15 rifle chambered in the brand-new 30 Remington AR cartridge. The initial offerings include a 125 grain Core-Lokt PSP that provides 308 Winchester performance levels and deer hunting capabilities out to 350 yards and will fit a full-length AR15 magazine .

You see it here first. Remington's new 30 Remington cartridge (left) next to a 223 and 308 Winchester
The 30 Remington was developed after the existing 6.8 Remington SPC and 22-250 Remington didn't deliver enough case capacity to meet velocity requirements. The 450 Bushmaster, however, has passed the muster and has been modified to a cartridge with the same overall length as the 223 Remington, fits modified 450 Bushmaster magazines and has a case capacity of 44 grains and delivers a velocity of 2800 feet per second.

The new shell will be available in three initial loadings: AccuTip BT, Core-Lokt PSP and a UMC MC the company describes as the "practice ammunition" for the hunter or shooter who doesn't want the hunting round characteristics - or price. The two hunting rounds are 125 grain bullets; the full-metal rounds are 123 grain. Pricing is currently listed at $35.99 for the AccuTip, $26.49 for the Core-Lokt, and $18.99 for the FMJ.

Ballistically, the 30 Remington Accutip (125 grain) matches up closely with the 308 Winchester 165 grain out to three hundred yards and velocity and trajectory remain comparable out to 400."

Cool ROund for a new upper. But I read the marketing as a 125 grain bullet at 2700 fps (a hot 30/30).

It's a good thing every time a new caliber is introduced for the AR rifle platform. I have enjoyed watching the evolution of the AR from a combat rifle to a sporting arm, and hope manufactures continue to invest in new calibers and keep new models coming on the market.

If they are talking about hunting anything bigger than a coyote, I think that the proper .30 cal bullet weight starts at 150 gr. Just my personal hangup.

But, I will put it on the list of new toys to get, after the 6.5 Grendel, 6.8 SPC, and the .458 SOCOM or .450 Bushy. And maybe .204 Ruger.

Its the US, so you have to have a thirty caliber!

I saw the news this morning on TOW as well, I had been wondering what Remington was going to do with Bushmaster et. al., and now we see part of that.

I wonder what their plan is for California? wink

130 tsx would equal or better most 150 standard 30 cal bullets....

Yeah, probably. Just kinda stuck in the dark ages bulletwise with my Nosler Partitions. Though I do shoot an old school Barnes X in my .25-06 (115 gr).

I've used partitions over the years and unless they are stressed they work really good. I've had bad issues with large game with them and hence my reason to move to barnes... which just keep impressing me.

Not much need for me for a lg bore AR, but if my state wasn't so backwards I would prefer a 7TCU upper. I am biased on 7mm's, but my mid 80's 2nd gen Contender pistol/ 10" TC bbl, 100 hndy or 120 sierra's topped w/ a 2-1/2x pistol scope shoots under 3/4" 5 shots off a rest, even with my son shooting it, LOL.

7mm sounds good. I can't have enough AR uppers. Feel for those that live in KA, I'd have to move.

I'm still planning for a 358 WSSM from Dtech. Just not sure when the money tree will blossom.

brass is available in 2012 smile doesn't horny own the 450 bushmaster?

glad to see someone doing wildcats for the ar.... i would asume it would be way easier to neck down to 25 from 30 than from 45 smile

100tsx at souper speeds would make a nice package .....

then you have the wssm uppers already going offering available brass, dies to neck up or down and more poop......... dunno'

So are they using the old .30 Remington case, or a shortened .30 Remington case?

If they simply shortened the old .30 Rem you would think they would come up with a better name for it so as not to cause confusion.

It's from the 450Bushmaster which was derived from the 284Win case.

6mmbr.com has a good rundown of the cartridge
