I rattle canned my second stock, this time using the reverse stencil method. It's kinda hard to explain so I thought I'd post some pics for anyone who's thinkin about trying it.

First I prepped the stock and then painted the whole thing flat earth brown.

Then I cut out stencils from blue painters tape and taped off everything I wanted to stay brown. The brown and blue actually looked kinda good together

Then I painted the whole thing tan and taped off what I wanted to stay that color.

Then I taped off what I wanted to stay tan and painted the whole thing green.

End result. Sorry, I couldn't find a fence post on the range...

Some blemishes showed up in the pic just in front of the bolt handle. It's just sweat. It was friggin hot today.

First week of December. Looks like we'll go up the day after Thanksgiving and I'll start that next Monday a.m.

What a good job Bluedreaux, nicely finished - Congratulations. I like it. Some said they liked my job after I posted pics and it was really only my 2nd attempt too. As nice as yours looks it may just be all someone needs to decide to go for it. The pics are great and should help others. Terrific.

Steelhead, you got to get over that and at least give it a try- just once. Blue's does look great don't it. Embarrased to admit but impossible to me is simply backing up a trailor! How pitiful is that!!!

Nice job.

I like the blue on brown.

What kind of stock is it? and What did you use for paint?

I would really like to try this some time. You did well.

If I'd of had blue paint on hand it might have ended up brown with blue tiger stripes.

It's the stock that Remington put on the Mountain Guides. They're made by Bell & Carlson, I think.

For paint I used Krylon Fusion camo colors (green and tan). The fusion stuff is supposed to adhere better to plastics. The brown was Rustoleum. The clear coat is Krylon.

It can get addicting. Everytime I look at it I think about a different pattern I'd like to try...

Great job on the stock - now that you have done one you will want to play around with some more - like you said its addicting. But - that looks good - in fact it looks kinda like mine smile

You know, for some reason the blue taped intermediate step looks pretty cool!

I would not mind that colour scheme and your pattern as a final version!

Of course, you would never get near a deer with that blue... grin
