My boss wants a new Encore Prohunter and he wants to sell his 1895 XLR 45/70 that he just got last year. The thing is still in orignial condition with maybe 20 rounds through it. He wants $500 for it. I've been out of the 1895 market for a few years and don't really need it since I have several 45/70 guns including a 1895G, but I don't want to pass up a good buy.

If I needed another 45-70, I would be all over that one.

.

BoomSplat, You would need to run very fast to beat me to that deal. I don't know where you live around here but the blue/walnut model usually go for more than that don't they?

Like I said, I've been out of the market for 1895 models for a while. I bought an 1895 G with the ports new in 99 and I paid $409. I bought my 1895 GS in 04 or 05 for $495 on sell at Dick's. I started looking around today and the price of the 1895 has hit the roof. Gander Mountain had one for $700. I don't need another 45/70 as I have four guns and my dad has five guns chambered for the 45/70, but I do like the looks of the XLR.

Get it. If you don't use it, you can probably sell it for more than you are going to pay for it.

Just bought an 1895 NIB 22" blued off Gunbroker for 400 + 25 shipping. I may have got a very good deal even thought it is not the XLR model. But I am thinking that the price of guns may be softening a little with the economy?????????????????????????????

Still at 500 with no shipping and no transfer fee and an XLR it is a good price.
