No Brian, the original subject was "Joe the Plumber", that is until you arrived.
Anyway as long as "Joe the Plumber" is making news, no matter how Obama's hit squad, or MSM puts their spin on it, it is a MAJOR hit on Obama's Tax proposal, he (Joe) has done more to make everyday people actually "THINK" about their own situation.
The more they beat up on Joe, the more it hurts Obama.

So, what else does Canada have to offer besides some great hunting and fishing locations? Some great people. There are many on this site. Well, that's a given with the few exceptions trolling around here. It was a little tongue in cheek, eh. IMHO, people around the world are pretty decent, it's the Governments that suck!
I really like lever action rifles. Sure it's romantic, but it's also very American.

The question was - about our BANKS.
They have huge amounts of rules and regulations - and are rated the WORLD'S safest.
Why is that? If government intervention in the economy is bad - we should be in bad shape - instead, our banks are rated #1. If Canadian banks are the world's safest, then that just means that banking is among the least socialized sectors of the Canadian economy. Even if that is not true, there's no immutable law that states that all facets of socialism must fail simultaneously. For the record, I am a conservative and not a libertarian. I'm not opposed to gov't regulations that promote transparency and fair dealing. That's not an inherently socialist concept. A big part of the problem in our case was the wrong regulations, and not an insufficient amount of regulation. The US gov't inserted itself in credit and financial markets as a way to "spread the wealth around". Buying votes with OPM has become a venerated tradition in social democracies.

Could you address the question - how has Canada's "big-government" rules and regulations hurt our economy - particularly our banking system?
Sometimes more government involvement can prove to be a good thing.
It sure doesn't appear to have hurt our banking system - or our economy.
So much for the statement it has "consistently and catastrophically" failed everywhere. Check out Scandinavia too - while you are at it. When you add up your various taxes, how much is the government take? It's my understanding the average Canuck gives about 1/3 to 1/2 of their income to the government entities. Depending on state taxes and income, they take us for about 1/10th the 1/3. I'm kinda partial to using my money to take care of my family vs. relying on the government. Guess Americans are funny that way.

Canada, geez. If I was interested in socialist Canada, I'd go live there. This is America thank God. Now what happened to the discussion of Joe the Plumber? I'm liking that guy.

I know what you mean and agree. Don't take Brian too seriously on this forum. He's obviously the ususal odd-man-out, but overall even he's a pretty decent guy. He's done some great posts evaluating bullet performance on some other threads, and is overall an asset to the 'Fire......just don't tell him I said so. (Of course, as an accountant I count a septic system as an asset...... Just keeping with the plumbing theme. ;))

Can't add much more to what's already been said. Sad when the MSM is focused on ruining an everyday "Joe" because he raised a solid question that the rest of us everyday Joes would like to have answered.
I know a "Joe the plumber". Perhaps the best commercial HVAC tech in all of Los Angeles. Worked his azz off to get there. He and some guys from their previous employer decided it was time to split from their company, and start their own. They've been doing really well the past couple years. Top notch and fast climbing HVAC co. They are livid about Nobama's plan to take what they worked so hard for, 14 to 16 hour days, 6 and 7 days a week to make a go of this, and now want to redistribute it to the sorry [bleep] to lazy to get off their own asses and make a run at a decent living.
Socialism at its' finest. Introducing comrade Obama and welcome to the USSA.

Honestly one of the things that has kept me from starting my own business are goverment regulations, taxes, permits, etc, etc. I just don't have to the spare time to jump through all those hoops, pay all those fees, and then have time left to actually make some income.
Most bearocrats and politiceans are clueless of the fact that businesses opperate in spite of government, not because of it.

There is a little bit of good news... It sounds like Obama and Biden might be putting their feet in their mouths.
They showed a clip of Biden (On Leno, I think?), where he busted on Joe for not having a license. He didn't sound respectful. Then they showed Obama snickering as he asked an audience "Do you know any plumbers that make $250,000 a year?"
Insulting blue-collar workers because of how much they make is not a smart thing to do. And for this prior mechanic, it pisses me off!

I've always loved going to Canada and have some very good friends there. They are doing pretty well, while we feel the rug moving under our feet. I don't much like their more socialist type of doing things, but They voted it in, not us in the USA. Canada has been much more loyal to it's friendship with the USA than most of the rest of the world, and I look upon them as an excellent neighbor. NO...I'm NOT a socialist... I appreciate friends with differences.

44henry Just goes to show how out of touch Biden and that turd Obama really are with common people. I know quite a few plumber/HVAC guys who run their own businesses. I sell to them as a wholesale distributor. One in particular did $70k in wholesale alone last year. And we are not his main supplier!! This is one guy, with three employees. He might not pull down $250k a year NET but I am sure he is close in gross sales. They think only an "intellectual" can make that kind of money. It's irrelevant how many plumbers make that much money because in the America I believe in, anyone SHOULD be able to, without fear of hitting some glass ceiling of taxation because they are enterprising. I have thought numerous times of starting my own business but as another poster said, I don't have time for the BS. My father has a biotech start-up and a friend of mine, my FFL dealer, has run his own business for 10+ years. I watch what both of them go through, and it's not worth it to me, for what they are able to pull out of it, and the hassles they have. More power to them for trying, though! That's America.

44henry I saw that too, and too bad it's not getting more (any) play in the MSM. High brow, elitist uppity piece of chit. Never had a hard day's work in his life, and detests those who have. I'm in the commercial building services industry, and I know plenty of plumbers, HVAC techs, elevator techs, construction guys, etc., who make that kind of money in their small businesses. $250k ain't squat to a small "blue collar" business where I'm at. And the magic negro wants to take it from these hard working people who have busted their azzes for years to get there, and give it to the lazy POS, never gonna get off their azz and do anything welfare wannabes. Of course if you're Obama, it just can't be right that an "everyday Joe" without ivy league diploma on the wall should be making that kind of money.

Luv2...there ain't no undecideds. That's HS! Just get out and vote! issac, I disagree...I know several who are in fact undecided. They are working class, as I am, and they are conservative by nature. They are also real pizzed at the Republica-blunderers in the beltway. Obama's outright lies have caught their sense of disenfranchisement, and they are waffling left and right. The present crop of thieves and confidence men in the Republican party deserve what is about to happen. WE as a People don't! I've often been told as a heathen, I am going to Hell; I hope so, so I can kick their collective butts for what they brought on to this Nation through eternity.

MSM? Who are they? Oh! You mean that "news group" that sits on the bottom ratings every night? Do people still watch them?

All the libtards hate Joe the Plumber. He's what has made America great. People kicking their feet out, motivated people but the left was to rien them in and make them act like all the other cattle. It's not nice to make more money than you brothers. Now tow the line and be a good socialist/commie.
