The elections are finally over? I mean, I don't remember things being this hectic before Bush was re-elected. I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm totally ignorant when it comes to politics and therefore I try and not engage in any discussions over them because I'll always look like an idiot in the end.

Can't even enjoy the internet hardly because of all the "Obama this" and "Palin that". Can't even hardly enjoy YouTube because of all the new political propaganda everywhere and being sent to me and like a fool I view it anyways out of bordom. Only sites I can enjoy are the few that don't allow political talk.

Same goes with my real life. Can't even talk with my friends or co-workers without the same kind of crap coming up as does on the net. Thank God my girlfriend feels the way I do about politics and also Maser Jr. isn't old enough to know anything about it because I think that would of set me over the edge.

Sorry, just a little rant. smile

It always surprises me when I meet someone who is not interested in politics. I can assure you politics is very interested in YOU!!

It'll be weird, as I take an interest in it. I understand you are young, I'm not much older at 21 but, at some point I suggest you take an interest in it. Apathetic attitudes such as that are why we have such [bleep] on both sides of the aisle running our country into the ground. Please tell me that you're at least going to vote..

Do you support Obama more because he supports the troops staying in Iraq, or because he doesn't support abortion?

Do you think Joe Biden was a good VP choice for McCain?

I've voted every election I've been entitled to for the last 39 years, since I turned of age.

If you don't, you aren't entitled to bitch- and deserve everything the bastids do to you. (You'll note I didn't defferentiate between parties here....)

While not mandated, some view it as a civic duty. I'm guessing there are lots here who do.

Fine example you are setting for your son! Voting is the responsibility of every legal citizen of this country. Obviously you don't care one whit about your son's future and I'm not talking a specific political party here. If everyone had the attitude I'm not going to vote we wouldn't have a country! Men and women died for your right to vote and it is the most irresponsible thing I could ever think of to dishonor them that way. Shame on you!

If you don't vote then you can never complain as you didn't voice your opinion when it mattered! Whne I was in High School I couldn't wait until I was of legal age to cast my ballot. EVERY VOTE COUNTS!

Don't be a sheeple, get your butt out and cast that important vote!!!!!

"Voting is the responsibility of every "legal citizen" of this country."

I understand that comment but it's hard for me to get upset about someone not voting when one of the contestants can't/won't even prove he's a "legal citizen" to be voted for.... judges won't get off their asses and do something about it.... media won't report it..... his worshipers don't care if he's constitutionaly qualified or not.... etcetera...

I'm going to take exception to many of the comments here:
If you don't care enough to study the issues and the candidates, DON'T VOTE. Blind voting has put some real buttheads in office. Half the people in NYC will vote for Obama without knowing the 1st thing about him. The whole country would be better off if they didn't vote because they know nothing about the candidate.

If you don't care enough to vote intelligently, DON'T VOTE.

Exactly my whole point! Glad this was posted before I made a post saying the exact same thing.

Main reason I don't believe in voting is I know nothing about the candidates and I have no desire to learn about them. Also, no matter who we "feel is best choice" it won't be the perfect choice in the long run. There is no such thing as the perfect President. Never has and never will be because we are humans and not machines. We screw up. That's just how things are. Here's my feeling on voting. If I did learn about a candidate and he seems "best choice" for me and I vote and he gets elected, that makes me as a voter responsible for him getting into office right? Well, like I said already, nobody is perfect. While some issues with America might or will get fixed, the scale will then tilt towards another problem. And then that problem will be complained about and as a voter who helped vote that person into office I'm still responsible right?

It's why I don't believe in voting. By not voting, I'm not responsible for voting for a moron into office. I can honestly say that I had nothing to do with it. I'm sorry that's not the answer you wanted to hear, but it's the honest truth in how I feel. Only candidate I actually took the time to read a little about was Ron Paul.

Someone once said that we in the United States get the government we deserve. It was not intended as an optimistic remark.

I can understand a desire to not contribute to a larger problem by voting "the wrong way", and the best way to guarantee that is to not vote at all. Unfortunately, you have absolutely no control of your future with this way of thinking. You have become a sheep.

Every citizen, regardless of ethnic origin or educational level, has a right to vote in this country. Each owes it to himself, and his other citizens, to study the issues and vote intelligently. That means reading between the lines, checking the "back stories", and keeping notes.

There are an awful lot out there who "vote their emotions", who are easily swayed by a gifted speaker. Back in the days of snake oil salesmen, these folks were called rubes. I'm not sure, but these people may be more dangerous to the country than the apathetic types who don't vote.

Once upon a time, I was talking to my dad about the future, and I referred to a time "when I was finished with school." My dad quietly corrected me, explaining that one's education is never really finished. "School should teach you how to learn", he said.

So, just because the country's a mess, and the issues are complex, I wouldn't give up on voting. Think of it as a challenge. See if you can figure out where the guy is coming from and vote intelligently. You might surprise yourself and actually feel a little better. smile
