For a while their website was saying that the new site would launch in mid-October. Then, that was changed to read late October. Now, I just checked on it and it is saying November! I mean, how long does it take to revamp a goddam website?! Any reputable company oughta be able to do it in just a matter of a few days.....not a few months!

as much as people are paying for their overpriced rifles you would think they could afford it.

Just saw 4 new Vanguard Fibermarks, for $390 each, at Wallyworld, in Hornell. To much??

What I want to know is when and where the old Weatherby showroom is or will be. My few times there in the 60's made a huge impression on me.

the vangards are not over priced and IMO are a good rifle for the money, its the mk 5's that are the joke, if you ask me. I also don't care for the humpy stock.

It's clear either Weatherby or their service provider is being targeted aggresively. Their last site was shut down because someone had piggy backed spyware/virus onto their site. The new one came up and got the same thing.......

Now if it's their provider they need to change. If it's them and being targeted what are you going to do.

I think NathanL is correct, as that is the same thing I had heard from a fella at Weatherby (virus/spyware attack).

weatherbys , like most magnums, came to be in a time of few powder types and relativly basic cup/ core bullet designs.
with the advent of new computer aided case designs, multimetal controlled expansion bullets and "magical" propellants, there isnt really much need for overbore magnums in the lower 48 these days.
we constatly hear of the biggest bulls being dropped w/ 7-08's. the days of the magnums "usefullness" isnt dead, but its in ICU.
As ammo prices soar, metal prices soar, hazmat fees on powders drive up prices, primers getting scarce...
i'd much prefer a caliber that only consumes 40-50 grains of powder and a easy to find or easy to form brass.
im sure weatherby is feeling the heat.

Yep, that's why I've added 2 Roy magnums to my group in the past 2 years.

I've been seeing quite a few .257's as of late. Maybe I've just been noticing them more since I bought one...

Yep, if that extra few cents or dollars is gonna break you, I don't think you've done a rundown of game meat actual cost...
And if you have, 22lr is effective and cheapest.

Yeah...no real use for the Weatherby chit anymore... whistle In case you hadn't noticed, uhhh Remington has now come out with the RUM's??? Weatherby has been pretty much the benchmark for both accuracy & velocity for hunting rifles for over 50 years. Dude...You want velocity ya gotta burn a few extra grains. My Vanguard .257 cost $436 out the door. As for their Mark V's...I seen a .257 ULW on the rack for $1250...Fluted barrel & bolt, nice Bell & Carlson stock with a decellerator pad, factory target was near moa & the damn thing pointed & balanced nearly as good as a light over under shotgun. I doubt Weatherby is feeling as much heat as you think.

My big game rifles all burn between 70 and 100 grains of various powders. No trouble finding brass for 257WBY, 300RUM, 8mm RemMAg for my wildcat made by necking this one up to .338, and I have a lifetime supply of 416 Rigby brass, components and loaded ammo. I will concede that my favorite VARMINT rifle only uses 40 or so grains of powder (22-250AI). The cost of a bit more powder doesn't phase me and maybe I do not always need the extra speed and power, but when I did I was glad I had it. Besides, to me it adds to the fun factor. I left the tent of the pure subsistence hunters long ago.

Love the fast stuff! Long live the Weatherby line of cartridges!

Having burned 6-7 tanks of gas to drive out to Wyoming to visit a college friend and his wife and shoot a pronghorn and some prarie dogs, I don't recall the cost of ammo troubling me at all.
