Not sure whether anyone else has replied with this info, but Marlin serial numbers are a real Chinese puzzle, because Marlin apparently gave continuous serial numbers to every piece coming out of the factory, regardless of model. The Model 1893 became the Model '93 in 1905, and the serial numbering system changed at that time or some time after. The barrel is marked with the "Marlin Firearms Corporation" name which was the name from 1922-1924, but apparently the new "Marlin Firearms Company"(1926-1935) continued assembling guns with the old marking after 1924. The best that can be guessed with certainty is that it was built before 1935-36 when the last of the '93's was shipped. It is still a nice piece, at least 70-75 years old.
Regards, Jack

Marlins after 1924 should have the bullseye in the stock.

Interestingly enough, when Marlin changed the designation from M1893 to M93 in 1905, that was the only change made - the gun stayed identical (for a while). A M93 made in 1905 would likely have a serial number around 340,000.

Steve, From what i have found out they changed their s/n around 600,000 after WW1. Don Don - That's interesting. I don't think I have ever seen a Marlin lever rifle with a serial number higher than 4xx,xxx and I wonder if I have even seen one above 45x,xxx. Of course, I am mainly looking at Savages, so I shouldn't be faulted for not be fully knowledgeable on this OFF TOPIC topic

I meant to say I had never seen one beyond into the 500,000 serial range and probably not even beyond the 450,000 range. How about your experience?
