Has anyone ever used the .55gr Remington Accelerator loads in the 30-06? I normally use a 22-250 for hunting varmints, however, my 22-250 is a Winchester Model 70 Stealth, bull barrel the problem is mine is mainly a bench rifle wearing a Mcmillan stock and Leupold Vari XIII 6.5-20x50mm. With scope covers, sling and loaded it feels like it weighs nearly 15lbs! The older I get the heavier it seems. My main go to rifle is a Pre-64 Model 70, Featherweight in 30.06 and I was thinking about trying out some of these 55gr accelerator loads for varmints. Midway Usa lists them as a seasonal item and I cant seem to find any. My only other option is to buy the sabots and load them up myself. Just wondering if its worth the hassle?

I've never been able to find the sabots as a component to reload.
I've used the for grounhogs, and they work. Some rifles shoot them accurately, others dont. If I recall correctly they shot about 1 1/4" in my mod 70.
All you can do is try them in your rifle.

I looked around online and found this place that sells them. May order a couple of hundred and try them out. http://www.sabotreloadingpro.com/home

Never found accuracy I could live with with the Accelerators. I tried them many years ago in .30-30, .308, and .30-06. Average groups ran 2" to 3", usually closer to 3" in my experience. I've not heard of anyone else with great luck in getting decent groups from them either. Great idea that just doesn't seem to actually work well in practice.

MOGC,
Thanks for the info, I was wondering how accurate they could actually be. Makes sense. Thanks again

You might want want to try 110 Sierra HP and a starting load of 4895 for lower volume varmint shooting in your featherweight.
Not what you originally asked for. But 4895 can be loaded down with light bullets for pleasant shooting varmint loads.
Hodgdon's web site has a data section specifically for this.
OR
You could take the coward's way out and buy a new rifle.
Maybe a new Ruger Hawkeye in .223 with the same scope that your featherweight has.

I have used the Accelerator off and on for years, primarily in a 308 Win. I just used some two weeks ago in a 30-06 and they performed great - 1.5" groups. I have a friend that shot a whitetail with one and it put a very significant hole in the chest wall. However, I would suggest that they be limited to varmint use.
Also, I purchased some of the components and found that to seat the sabot, the mounth of the case had to be belled so that the plastic sabot would not get shaved in the process. Reloading is a little tricky, but practice works out the problems.
Good luck.

I shoot 110 grain Vmaxs.
They go fast and work well out to 200 yards.

EA Brown company sells the sabots and gives loading tips and powder choices.
The 110 VMax, however, is the much easier and more enjoyable solution, unless you are trying to save fur.

125 grain Speer TNTs work well too. One hole groups and exactly 6 inches higher point of impact than my elk/deer loads at 100 yards; dead on left to right out of my '06.
