Who makes the best open sights for a dangerous game rifle today?

The two criteria I am most interested in are:
1) [color:"blue"] DURABILITY [/color] -Must be capable of taking a good lick and not falling off or changing zero. Recoil in the 460 Weatherby range.
2) [color:"blue"] VISIBILITY [/color] -Would like to be able to aquire fast target picture. Thinking maybe peep with fiber optic front...
Any and all suggestions / experiences welcome.

...i really like the necg sights...you can order fully adjustable sights or express sights that would be required to be regulated in relation to the barrel(s)...tho have heard that many ph's hunters use peeps as well...

The NEGC sights are very good, but it is also hard to beat the XS (formerly Ashley AO) peep.

D'Arcy Echols fitted a set of the NEGC express sights to my .385 H&H Mauser a couple years ago. These feature fiber optic front bead, and two fiber optic beads on either side of the rear notch. The rear sight is also hollowed out, so you can see right through it, even if you forget correct form and shoot with the off-eye closed. In spite of all that it is still VERY strong--and is indeed very fast. D'Arcy fits these for about $500 but they are the real deal.

For your purposes I would still probably go with an XS peep and fiber-optic front.

Hey John, what do you think of the Ashley front blade (post, white stripe) vs. the fiber optic or vs a large white bead?

The Ashley post is good, but too many of the white beads are fragile. I much prefer a silver or gold bead that's actually part of the sight--but none show up like a fiber-optic bead. These are usually not actually a bead, but a short section of fiber-optic held by a partial tube of steel. (Partial because light needs to hit the top of the fiber-optic for it to glow.) They are pretty darn rugged.

Thanks for the rifle sight suggestions.
Charlie mentioned some of the ideas you and he discussed about future buffalo hunts. Sounds pretty good and I appreciate that as well. I'll be thinking about how to get to that point from where we are currently at for a while.

Another vote for the NECG fiber optic see through um gizmo. Fantastic in every way and the one I shot was also installed by D'Arcy Echols.

This is an optional sight that Krieghoff puts on their double rifles...looks a lot like what Mule Deer described. I tried it out at SCI and it was amazing. They put them on for about $400.
