HawkI - I have alternated between my rifled 1300 and my old smoothbore Ithaca Deerslayer. The darned Ithaca will shoot Fosters right with the sabots from the 1300 at 100 yards. Am going with the Ithaca this year with the .357 along if I am within comfortable (for me) range. Have gone "south" with the 06 in January the last two years and never got a shot. Good luck to you. Best, John

7x57 Mauser has worked well but I admit I'm not terribly concerned about the differences in calibers.

This year, its a Kimber Montana in 308. I love that little gun.
Next year, I should have another barrel and stock on the 260, and then its going to be hard
I'm Irish...

270 WIN because I read a lot of Jack O'Connor when I was younger and had no one in my family with any high power rifle experience to guide me with. My own experience over the past 31 years of hunting with a .270 WIN has proven old Jack knew what he was writing about.

A .270 Win in a Tikka Lite. At the recommendation of most of the guys on this forum two years ago. Only for 100-300 yards. At closer ranges a 20ga Slugger rifled slug (smoothbore) in a Rem 1100 with three inches chopped off the barrel. Perfct for me in these woods at up to 100 yds.
Better to be over the hill than under it.

Two? Oh come on! Well, I've killed most of my deer with a 243 and second place is 30-06.

We may know the time Ben Carson lied, but does anyone know the time Hillary Clinton told the truth?

I loved my 25-06 for deer and pronghorn sized game. In the thick stuff I seem to pick my 336 Marlin in .35 Remington, great gun. Sense the 25-06 was stolen I have gone back to the 30-06 for everything except where the the shots are close and the brush is thick, then the .35 gets the knod.
