Welcome, you're the 3rd Aussie we've had here in the last 2 months but the other guys don't show up to much anymore.

So what models do you have in the safe, I'm guessing for sure a model H in either 22 Hi-power or 30-30. For some reason they must have gotton a big shipment of H's down under!

I'm surprised of the amount of 1899 and 99's that are showing up down there. I wonder how they all got down to Australia?

I have owned a couple of Savage rifles that came home to the USA after being "Down Under". A 1920/26 with British proof marks stamped all over it, along with the notation of "not english made". I assume that that rifle went to Australia via the UK. The other was an 1899A Short Rifle in 30-30 that did not have any additional "stuff" stamped on it. I assume that that rifle when directly from the USA to Australia.

As a collector of Savage 1920s, I appreciated the great article that Les O'Rourke wrote in the Australian Shooters Journal a few years ago. A much better piece of work that Layne Simpson's recent review of the 1920.

Good on ya!

Hey, just saw this thread and thought I might post again!

My 1899 doesn't have any Brit proof marks. There're quite a few old Winchesters, Colts, I guess Savages etc around. There must have been direct importers. The volumes wouldn't make sense otherwise.

According to his biography, Arthur Savage spent some years in England and Australia before coming to America. He probably had developed some good international business savy and contacts in that part of the world. Interesting fellow that Mr. Savage! There's a short bio. of him on the Savage Arms web site. .......joken2 http://www.savagearms.com/history.htm
