I agree. People do this on many scriptural issues. I do try to differentiate between those who are looking to find a way out of obedience to God vs those who have come to a different conclusion. In this case, I take you to mean "somersault" for those who are looking for a way out of obedience. In that case, it is by definition, sin.

I agree with everything you said, except for one small point.



I not only think we can discuss "extreme" positions without questioning the motives of others, we must. RH's efforts to ensure folks include Paul's words about who killed Jesus are small compared to my crusade to make sure folks can discuss polarizing issues in a polite, constructive, and non-emotional manner. It should be a given that we as believers can discuss and debate issues with each other in a edifying manner. If we can't, shame on all of us.

I hope we can. You may note that I used the past tense "could" to refer to this one discussion. I would add that "we" was the correct word, as I began to wonder what motivated certain comments during the thread.
