A beautiful state with beaches to mountains and everything in between. Wonderful people wanting the best for themselves, their families and children. A place whose image and reputation has been negatively altered by a minority.

WCB - I think you'll find that the line should be drawn up and down, rather than side by side. If you draw it into North and South, then you still end up with Sonoma, Mendocino and Humboldt counties in the North. If you go East & West, you leave all the idiots west of the Sacramento / San Juaquin rivers to themselves. People that live east of either of those two rivers tend to be very conservative, and really good people.

Humboldt,Trinity and Del Norte counties all contain a lot of good folks and a lot of good country.Yes,we have a LOT of liberals in Humboldt, but they mostly just want to be left alone and don't cause us normal folks too many headaches.
It's the LA transplants here that cause the most problems......

A formerly wonderful place that has, over the last 30 years, been totally ruined by overpopulation by immigration, socialism, kooks, freaks, left-wing extremism and nutcase laws, a victim of having a full time paid legislature.
Worst of all are the refugees from California who emigrate to Wyoming to get away from California, then, as soon as they get to Wyoming, they start trying to turn it into California.
I shudder in fear and loathing to think something might someday cause me to have to even drive through California.

how many are in your neck of the woods? on your flag or anywhere? Afraid not. I'm not sure how I know it's on the California flag. I was the kind of kid who read encyclopedias for fun. I probably came across a page with all the state flags on it, and I enjoyed looking at them. I don't remember all of them, but I remember California. And Alaska's has the big dipper on it. Penny

I've lived in Ca my whole life (always in the North and was raised in the far north "State of Jefferson"). It's changed so very much, but mostly because there are now 30 or more million folks in state that should have about 10 million tops. The North is still thinly populated, but burdened with all the regs, etc. that stiffle what little is left of an economy that was dependent on timber and tourists. There is virtually no logging anymore and the wackos make sure there is little recreation for the tourists. The bears that they were referring to above are the grizz that once roamed the whole state, not the blacks that are still abundant. It's a sad state of affairs. Living in the Bay Area is like living in Wonderland (the Alice type repleat with white rabbits). How such a beautiful land could have become so screwed up is beyond me....

The people coming here from the east coast screwed the place up-most of the problems we have here are caused by people who moved here.
I find it funny that everybody from Oregon and Idaho are complaining about the people from Kalifornia screwing up their states, but the Kalifornians are complaining about the east coasters screwing up the PRC!
This is a shooting forum, there is no place here for logic.

I just smile at the fact that I no longer live there. Oh, and my car registration this year was $38.00. I hear yours may be going up just a tick? Try $500 for my 3 year old truck! My wifes 7 year old vehicle is $111 I really need to move. ML

The bear hunting is still decent, deer on the other hand is another story. Hers a bit of info most do not know California takes the most waterfowl of any other state every year. we are right in teh middle of teh pacific flyway. The upland hunting isn't bad either.

The best summers of my life were spent in Santa Barbara (1951-1969) visiting with grandma and grandpa. Samuel Moser was the property owner at that time.....also the owner of Signal Oil. I remember him driving through the property with one of his wives (had 5 altogether) in his Rolls Royce while waving at all the ranch workers which included my grandparents. My brothers and I would visit Mr. Mosers "big house" at noon each day to see the feeding of the lion he kept as a pet. It was the first house I remember having an elevator. The "big house" was approximately a mile from the ocean (of which he owned many miles of shoreline) and he had maybe 40 yards wide of manicured lawn extending all the way to the ocean lined by palm trees on both sides.
My 2 older brothers and I spent 2 weeks there each summer on tens of thousands of private acres on the Dos Pueblos Ranch riding horses, Lambretta's, swimming, fishin', chasin' chickens and sheep.........growing up. We fished off the private piers which extended for a mile out from the shore which served as loading/unloading docks for the offshore oil rigs. We caught halibut, calico bass, bonita, mackeral, shark and all sorts of other fish. Being private, only the employees had access to these areas..............talk about fishin'......incredible. Oh ya....he had a small lake located about 100 yards from the ocean that was just filled with huge largemouth bass and other spiny rays. It also held crawfish which I used whole for bait and on occasion would surprise my grandma with several which she would then cook up for dinner. She was the best....she really was.
Spent a few months at MCRD in San Diego, then Camp Pendleton before my trip to SE Asia. After my year tour, I separated from Oceanside and spent several weeks with grandma (grandpa passed away while I was overseas) just trying to get it back together. If anyone could assist me in doing so, it was her.
So......if the question was really "what first comes to mind?"...........it would be those weeks spent each summer with my grandparents on the ranch. Due to their demise and the ranch having long been divided and sold off, my enthusiasm to revisit CA for any extended period has also diminished. A week or so in San Diego every other year to visit an ole' high school buddy is all that attracts me down south anymore.
