Have a rancher friend who really wants to go alligator hunting. Anyone out there that could provide a hunt? A contact for a reputable guided hunt? Or perhaps swap a hunt??????? Thanks for your help.

Back when I lived in Florida it was still illegal to hunt gators, so by definition all of them were disreputable. blush

Tell him to be sure and find out what kind of "hunt" it is. I knew a guy in LA that trapped gators part time. He also advertised "gator hunts". The hunt was you riding the boat with him and then shooting the gator he had caught.

Not "hunting" like you might expect.

I did an actual hunt in FL a couple of years back. Hunted a private ranch on a swap deal. The owner unfortunately bowed to the real estate market and sold it. HAd I known back then that my friend had wanted to do a gator hunt I would have taken him along. Guess we need to talk more.

Still looking here guys! Thanks for the help so far.

Thanks for the help. They are kind of pricey from what I have seen. I would like to work out a swap hunt for 2 if possible. Otherwise it will have to be a paid hunt.

I appreciate all the replies. Thank you.

I went on a hog hunt with a buddy that was hunting a gator. We each bought a hog/gator hunt for $1200, an apparent good deal for a 6-9 footer. I luckily decided that with no more mounts will fit in my trophy room so I called the guide who agreed I could just shoot hogs at a reduced rate. My buddy was hunting a swamp pond with a reported 8 foot gator when the boar dogs chased a small boar on top of the gator with his eyes & snout showing. All hell broke loose with the dogs & hog fighting all over the pond. The gator headed for the bottom. My buddy ended up with a small 6 foot gator & was very disappointed. I had a great hog hunt & shot 3 up to 250+ pounds. While our game was being skinned we watched a husband/wife team skinning 8-10+ foot gators that had been shot with a crossbow at night. These hunts go for $2000 & are for a 9-12 foot gator. A 12+ foot gator is $3500. Contact is Outwest Farms on Lake Okeechobee, Fl. Lee lightsey @ 863-634-3262. Website www.outwestfarms.com. I also have a contact for a guide that used bait(guts, etc) & the hunter shoots from a blind or other cover at gator on land. If interested send me a PM & I will find the info. Good hunting.

I'll PM you with my good friend's info. He does guided gator and wild hog hunts in Northeast La.

Gator season is in September here and he books fast. He had two of the Outdoor channel shows in this season. The chick on Driven 24/7 took a monster this year that will be featured on the OD channel next summer.

I think his largest '08 gators were 12'-4" and 11'-7" both over 700lbs.

It isn't cheap and they charge by the foot.

They have a nice lodge, good food, airport pick-up, etc.

They do different styles of hunting, archery, catching them on hooks, shooting them with rifles over bait sites etc. The scary part is retrieving the gator smile

Good Luck

The way most 'hunt' them sucks. Bait hooks, come back a shoot it.

You need to go bowfishing for them.

I'm applying for gator tags for sept 09. I've shot afew with a comercial hunter, but had to leave them with him; $$$$.

For now I'm gonna keep shooting fish.

It's still way to much up in the air. I get tags pinned down and do a little scoutting, and I'll let you know.
