In light of IdaRed's recent thread on the favorite Rifle , it caused me to think what everyone's three favorite Whitetail chambers are...

(Disregarding all other big game and considering whitetails ONLY!)

The following would be my preferred list:

1: 7mm-08
2: .358 Win
3: 6.5x55 Swede

Grasshopper

Really too many great cartridges for whitetail to list the three "best". Every caliber from .243 Win to .300 Win Mag will kill any whitetail that ever walked, A whitetail ain't that tough, but just for fun My fav's are #1 .308 Win followed closely by 7mm.08 Rem and then probably the most popular caliber in North America, the good ol' 30.06 is hard to beat, I choose the .308 and 7.08 first because I like a short action rifle best for Myself, they just make a neater package, they don't have that long sloppy action that the 06 clones do..................547.

In most of Iowa it's either a 12 ga. or 20 ga. slug. My preference is the 20. kwg
