Anyone Know? The 7mm08 sells well in all the other guns they sell. Grice's does a special run every once in a while.
The 7600 sells enough I would think. Great cal., great gun, I wish they would produce one.

I am too surprised that Remington hasn't made it standard production. Then again, at least in my mind, Remington does a good job of killing off cartridges that have their name tagged on it by limiting the style of rifles they come chambered in. Remember, not everyone likes to shoot bolts.

Because YOU like the 7mm-08 cartridge and YOU like the 7600 pump? Did it ever occur to you that there a lot of other folks that like something else? I expect that Remington Arms pays market analysts a lot more money than most of us make to project what may or may not sell. In case you don't reaize it, Manufacture of firearms (or any thing else for that matter) is a BUSINESS, NOT a service. Their reason to exist is NOT to please one person, or even a small group. Their goal is to manufacture a product and sell it on as large a scale as possible. As long as they can please the stockholders, they don't care WHAT or else they build. Sure, some folks would buy a 7mm-08, but that market is so small as to not be a major concern. Now IF you can convince their Market Analysts, the you can sell 250,000 - 500,000, I'd bet the'd build it. My point being, when people broaden their minds and look at the overall scope of things, It makes it much clearer... Don't think I'm picking on you, 'cause years ago, I had a M-94 Winchester .30-30 and got the idea that it would be a much better gun if it was a .30-40 Krag. I couldn't understand why they didn't make them. It took me a lot of experience with rifles in general (And much maturity) to understand it. Grasshopper

I've got one with gray laminated wood. The one on Gunsamerica is a good price.

Those Remington pumps are pretty sweet! I really enjoy using mine. Look on the Graybeard.com forum. Rumor has it Grice is going to chamber maple stock 7600's in: 7mm08, 35 Whelen, 257 Roberts and 6mm Rem. Go to Semi-auto and pump chat. Can't confirm but looks like it.

My buddy has one I believe. Was actually thinking just the other day how sweet one would be. The 7600 has just one action length, I think, so I can see why they don't exactly make a lot of short action cartridge offerings.

Pump guns are nice if you do most of your shooting offhand. IMO they suck if you shoot off a rest. I use shooting sticks whenever I can set up on game(most of the time). If I need a 2nd shot then it really is a PITA to deal with the pump action. A bolt is easier and faster.
I got rid of a very accurate .308 in a 7600 for this reason and never looked back.
Your mileage may vary.

Your mileage may vary. I don't really understand why you say they are hard to shoot off of a rest. I don't think I've shot a deer without a rest for 10 years. I use a rest at the range all the time. noting wrong with bolts. I have those too.

I had one in the laminated version. I thought it was VERY heavy compared to the standard wood production models. It looked nice, just felt like a 4x4 to me.

There is no logical reason for any short cartridge in the 7600.
If they made a smaller version of the 7600 for short cartridges then you have the .308 which is better in every respect than the 7mm08.

I'm not bitching that they don't have one, just wondering why they don't. It is a popular caliber, and it is a popular gun. I just wondered why they didn't make one standard. I don't own a 7mm08. But it would fit right in with the .308 and 30-06, and .280 7600's I do have. As far as somebody else wanting to use a differnt gun. Well I don't understand why everybody doesn't like the 7600. 'Tis the greatest rifle ever made!!!

Tzone, I expect the reason that Hunts doesn't like the 7600 off the bench is that it's required to remove the gun from the rest to cycle the action. Personally, I feel the same way. I like single shots, but don't care for the break open models for the same reason. Not that it's impossible, it's just inconvenient. Thus you must reposition the rifle after every shot. That makes it harder to shoot good groups. I am comfortable with hunting with any rifle, or any action. Altho' I don't own any self-loaders except an M1-Garand and a Mini-14. But I hunt with pumps, sgl shots and bolts. And even have a lever or two. (Post offered for clarification purposes only) Grasshopper

Major plusses for the 7mm-08: 1) (much) flatter trajectory 2) less recoil The only thing I see as a plus for the .308 is the ability to shoot a heavier bullet.

A bolt is easier and faster. Funny you should say so. Just yesterday I was showing my daughter how to hold and use shooting sticks to pump the action of a 20 gauge slug gun without taking them off/out of the sticks for followup shots. Works pretty slick, if the sticks have a good gripping surface where the gun rests and you hold them right. Try holding the slide in the sticks and pumping it forward and back with your trigger hand. She got it quickly, though it won't matter much as I'm only giving her one shell at a time for her first time out. <wink>

And how, exactly, is the .308 better in every respect? Using the same weight bullet, the .308 is better. Accuracy is the real deal breaker. The .308 is more accurate. Recoil is the same.

Evevy 7600 I have ever had has been accurate. However, my .308 kicks harder in that gun than any other rifle I have. For some reason in the 7600 that .308 is a snappy little sucker. almost unpleasant...almost. I only had a 7mm08 in one for about a box of shells. But it recoiled noticiablly less.

That's because most people shoot lighter bullets in the 7mm08.
