what's that bobcat worth? I was gonna make a couple pairs of bobcat underwear out of her.... dang it!

No, I been wanting to get one for a long time now for the wall. I got my fox about 5 years ago, and a coyote last winter (tanned both of them for nose hangers) and now the bobcat. that pretty much finishes up what I can legaly shoot for predators around here.

bobcat will be on the wall with his buddies the fox & the coyote out at the chickenbuck shack.

Well, if I must tell the truth

This is actually not a bobcat, rather it is a leopard squirrel (one of my 4 year olds hybrid forest creatures).

I was stalking a snowshoe hare in the cedars when this leopard squirrel appeared and. Well, its hard to talk about really..

He well he he lepped on me! shocked

I fought him off the best I could and tried to shoot him with the 20-20-30 gun (for flying bears) but the leopard squirrel tried to eat my 20-20-30 gun.

Well he had it eaten all the way up to the action with the muzzle in his belly & I was trying to get hold of the gun when that snowshoe hare came running in & pulled the trigger.

Boom! Great big hole in that leopard squirrels belly. As can be seen in this photo.

I guess the rabbit had it in for that leopard squirrel.

And that's how it happened.

nice Bobbie there ND. But we are sorely lacking in details. Unless you say differently, I am assuming it went down like this:

ND was on his way to his stand and it was very much still dark. He thought he could hear....nope, couldnt confirm it. every once in awhile, he would stop and listen but "it" would stop too. With visions of a swamp squid dancing in his head, he double-timed it to his stand. As he prepared to ascend, the unmistakeable sound of a branch breaking, caused him to stare into the blackness. Then, a shriek, followed by a piercing wail. Given this extra bit of motivation, ND skipped 3 out of every 4 steps and all but jumped into his stand. Once there, he chuckled softly, "prolly just a yote catching a rabbit". But based on the sounds coming from that direction, the rabbit must be putting up a good fight. As the blackness turned to grayness, ND put on his gameface-this was about ND vs Forky Toes and nothing else. Yet, what was making all that noise? Could it now be Forky Toes hisself, chasing a doe? Then a snarl....that surely ain't Forky Toes. Of a sudden, a streak of brown slashing through the woods...it stops a mere 20 feet from his stand. A nice little Bobbie it is, perfect for inside the shack. As the Bobbie looks back over her shoulder, fear gleaming in its eye, it never sees nor hears the shot. But something else did. ND turns to look...but it is too late, whatever was hot on the trail of his Bobbie bulldozes through the woods like an out of control Buick. it could only have been a ....

To a buyer $100.00 to $125.00, at auction upwards of $450.00 a little less dependent on the 20 20 30 hole size in the abdominals.

Time has come to where I've begun thinking of things to teach the kids that needed to be taught. As of Tuesday evening last week I began having stomach pain and tonight I sit with the same pain, going to the hospital tomorrow to find out. Think my appendix may have burst on Sat night after crawling into a treestand in terrible pain for awhile it finally let off some. Still there though so the thought that I'm not bulletproof has once again hit me.

So tonight the kids got taught about vaseline and cottonballs and they have begun filling film canisters with them. I explained the multiple uses for both fire making and for blisters and the like. Also had kiddo learn how to strike stick matches and we discussed the times they might need to know things like this. So as of tonight nomatter if I'm around or not Momma has agreed to think of new survival type games and they will get taught something new eachnight.

The kids also added they will make enough to give each Aunt and Uncle or Grandparent who has a car etleast 3 canisters each with cottonballs and possibly more with fishing line and hooks for Christmas. Life is tough but sure touches me to know I have a couple of Good kids who understand giving and passing things on is the Best thing one could ever do.

If I go MIA you all know whats up and hopefully some of you might consider a new game like this with your kids too. Best of Luck on deer season guys, gals and weezle type kids. I'll find out tomorrow after work but I'm praying my season isn't over yet. Kiddo needs to fill some tags yet!

T,

The females are a better coat and are used to make whole garments. Where as the males are typically used as trim.

LOL.... Thanks guys... Well last Tuesday I felt some dull pain in the gut after working out and I think pulled muscle. So I deal with it thru the rest of the week and don't think too much of it till I get way back in the woods acouple miles from the truck. Hunting with kiddo and as I crawl up the stand suddenly the same pain has me to almost not moving period, it hurts BAD.. I go the 2 steps up rather then 20 feet down. I curl up in a ball and deal with it for like 1/2 hour and the pain goes away all except for a dull ache. So I don't know what to think when I get home about it other then I have to deal with it and maybe a muscle knotted up. Thinkin this is nothing new, done it before.

Wife says appendix burst or somthin, me I don't know but I gotta take kiddo to the Big City for a Specialist visit on Thursday. So I'm thinking I can make it thru the week then go get checked out on Friday. Wife says we are going tonight after work.

I dunno guys I'm a Man and I deal wiff pain most of the time, heck I shot a nail through my whole dang hand and drove myself to the docs once. I've stuck tobacco spears over and inch into my gut while cutting it to hang on the stick and put into the barn to dry and kept workin. Ya know sometimes I may just push it too far as being a Man...LOL.. You guys can relate right? So anyway I'm a going.. Thanks!!!!

Now, let me get this straight. You shot a cat with a .22 mag. Was that a rifle or pistol? I ask 'cause I gotta calibrate my total bad ass factor!

I've worked in the woods for over 20 years. Not so much daily anymore, but for about 15 years pretty much eight a day.

In all those hours I've seen a grand total of three bobcat while I've been on foot. Now, I'm not sneaking around like Fud, but not banging a tin pan either.

Bad ass. Or completely and totally lucky.

Care to explain?

Craig
