Anyone shooting (or have shot) the 610? I'd like to give it a try, but was wondering if there was any positive/negative feedback out there. This would be my first venture into the world of revolvers and it would allow me to shoot cartridges I already load/shoot....and like.
Thanks,
JCM

I have one of the 4" 610s. It is a very good gun, but came with a very bad forcing cone. I had to recut the forcing cone with the 5 degree cutters for both the .357 and .45 to clean it up. It shoots 10mm stuff very well, but the only .40 S&W load I have tried is the CCI Blazer and it doesn't shoot it nearly as well.
I also have a Colt Delta Elite comp gun, a S&W 1006 and Glock 20. At the moment, I am not shooting any of them much. I like them and have no intention of getting rid of any of them, but 10mm isn't high on my priority list. I am shooting .45 AR, .357 and .500 S&W a lot more.

Thanks TomC321!
I'm pretty simple on my handguns. They are either 40 or 10mm (except 22's) so the 610 would allow me tinker with a revolver and still keep my reloading/shooting down to those rounds. I shoot more 10's than 40's.
Have you handled/compared the 6 inch to the 4?
Thanks again,
JCM

Tom..,
Been thinking about a Glock 20. I know you can shoot 40S&W in a 610, can you shoot it in a Glock 20? Can a 40S&W or .357Sig barrel be switched out on a 20?

I have owned both a 5" and 6.5" S&W 610. Both were superbly accurate! I still have the 5" adn have acquired a Ruger Blackhawk convertible in .38/40 & 10MM. I have run some heavy reloads through it and the weight really soaks up the recoil. If the opportunity presents itself this year I'd like to take a deer with either 10MM or one of my .45 Colts.

I have two 6.5" 610's.. up till recently I only had the one and I kept pestering anyone at S&W asking when they'd re-introduce it..
I use mine mainly for USPSA/ICORE competition. Before I had action work done to mine, I literally wore out 750 pieces of brass in the number of times I reloaded it to usually full power. The gun never gave so much as a hiccup. The one I shoot the most has likely 100,000 rounds through it.. about 20% was full power 10 mm handloads, and the rest are 40 S&W loaded light (140 gr RN @ 975 fps). I guess I got lucky in that dept as it seems other have not had the luck I have. I picked up the -3 model for the time when the -2 model may wear out.

I just can't get past this one thing...Why can't the 10mm be in an L frame?
Still, the 610 is a very cool revolver that gives you the best of both worlds, even if it's a bit on the plus side. You can shoot 10mm or .40 S&W (Short & Weak).
I see absolutely no reason you can't hunt deer with your 610 or your Blackhawk.

Actually, a couple of people make barrels for the Glock Model 20 in .40 S&W and .357 SIG. Take a look in Lone Wolf Distributors: http://www.lonewolfdist.com/Products.aspx?CAT=241

The 10mm in an L frame gun would be a nice addition, guess we can always hope. I've had 5 model 610's, 2 were 4" guns & 3 were 6 1/2" guns, all shot very, very well. In 2005 I put 54,000 rounds through 2 of them & the next year ran 32,000 through the same 2 guns, all this in USPSA competition, they ran super, never had a problem & shot my way to #1 nationally in "A" class revolver, also won the Rocky Mountain Regional in ICORE competition twice in Ft. Collins, Colorado (six shot division) all this with cast bullets. Never, ever used jacketed although they work fine but if you're going to shoot a lot that means cast bullets. My competition days are over (64 yrs old) but the guns are still running as good as ever. If you have one I'm sure you love it, if you don't have one I'm sure you'd love to have one!! I used a 205 gr cast slug for USPSA along with WST powder & used a 165 cast slug for ICORE. Made them on a Magma machine using wheelweight alloy.

...up till recently I only had the one and I kept pestering anyone at S&W asking when they'd re-introduce it.. I was at the gun store a day or so ago and was told that S&W HAS reintroduced the 610. The one I was shown was a 4" I believe. Maybe they have begun manufacture again. If anyone is interested: http://www.collectorsfirearms.com/admin/product_details.php?itemID=19789
By the way, in case you missed it, Jeremiah was a bullfrog.
