I have had all my Encores set at 1.5#. My Marlins all have WWG triggers and are about 3-3.5#. My Blasers come from the factory at about 2.5-3#.

I would say the "perfect" for me would be 2-2.5#.

3.5 lbs is my standard, I do have a few set at 4 lbs (the .338WM and the .458WM).

3.5 lbs for me, no lower than 3 and some as high as 5. Of all my rifles, the only one that drives me nuts is a double set trigger on a Brno 22f, it is about 9.5 lbs unset, and about that many ounces when set. I think I need to swap that trigger for a good single.

With the Remington, I am always "suprised" when it goes boom. It happens real fast, and I do not feel comfortable taking the rifle out hunting, until I get the trigger worked on.
So what would be a good weight for a close range hunting gun to be used during cold weather? Thanks for any input.

3 pounds for me. And that "surprise" that you don't like, will make you a much better shot once you get use to it. Heavy triggers are responsible for a lot of the accuracy problems people have with new rifles.

Guess Im the odd man out because my triggers are set at one pound. I practiced with my first Jewell set at the factory one pound setting for hours and hours. Just got used to it. I dont wear large gloves when I hunt otherwise Id move up to two pounds or so.

"Practice" being the key word here. Trigger weight preferences are subjective and as long as you are prepared to "do it the same way" everytime, you'll be fine. I'd recommend that you use a trigger that is as light as YOU are comforatable with.

Mine are all the same.

Somewhere between 2.75 and 3.25, depending on the rifle. What "feels right" on one doesn't on the other.

"Hunting rifle" is subjective also. All my bolt guns have 1.5#, but they are basically target rifles, designed for hunting. Most of my hunting allows a rest of some sort. I might like a different trigger if were on a horse or getting chased or something. smile
