I thought about going the 250 route as well. But I wasn't sure if the action and/or magazine length could handle the slightly longer COL (2.350" vs 2.515"). I suppose you could keep the 250 loads to 100gr or lighter bullets and maybe seat them a little deeper.

I'm with you Terry. 1 in 8 twist and some 75gr. Scirroco II's or 62 or 70gr. TSX's will make a damn fine yote and/or whitetail rifle, especially for a kid or woman or even a guy with shoulder problems, like my dad. He simply can't handle the recoil as he gets older. Too many years of hard labor have taken their toll on his shoulders, so I picked up a Interarms Mini-Mauser in .223 and stuck a Prostaff 3-9x40 on it. Got some 60gr. Partitions and some 53gr. TSX's ready to stuff in some cases and try out. It nees a new Timney trigger as well.

I finally made it to the range with the 799.
The trigger is very good on this rifle and the bolt is smoothing up nicely.

It shot both Rem 123 gr. sp. and Win 123 grn. fmj. into very good patterns, for BUCKSHOT!
I also had some Fiocci 123 gr. fmj and Silver Bear 123 gr. hp. It shot both into consistent 7/8" to 11/8" 5 shot groups @ 100 yds. The problem is neither are good hunting rounds. The Fiocci being fmj and the Rusky being copper plated steel bullets.

I just sized and primed 60 cases so I can load some .310 dia. bullets for round 2.

despite the way the rest of my post will sound, I am only a noob to bolt actions, not guns in general.

I just got my new daly barreled mini-mauser action in the mail from cdnn, and the bolt forward and backward motion is very rough. does it smooth in with wear, or do I need to polish something? also, the up and down motion is very stiff. Is that normal, does it wear in, or is the bolt face contacting the barrel too much?

They are tight when new. Mine is starting to smooth a little after a few hundred cycles.

good to know. I was a little concerned. I don't mind working out, but not when shooting. thanks. anything else I should know about the mini? other than if you make the trigger too light and crisp the safety no longer engages?
