I know some have used the Edge stock in a "Compact Classic" or "Compact",or something like that for M70 FW's. I wanted to order one on here for a pre 64 FW 270,but don't see that particular model listed. Anyone have a picture of a FW set up in that stock, and can tell me which stock to order? Thanks in advance!

Bob:
The Compact is the same pattern as the Hunter's EDGE.
When built in standard fiberglass, it's the "Compact." When built ultralight EDGE, it's the "Hunter's EDGE."
Same mold.

Bob-great move on your part, tis my opinion that aside from my G33/40 with an Edge on it the M70 Pre Fwt in an Edge is simply the finest hunting rifle that one can put together!
Well done!

Brad/Dober: Long over due IMHO! I don't "need" it,but it is a great mix of "old" and "new".To have the assent and approval of two luminaries is also gratifying!

Bob,
I haven't put the two together yet, but I love the P64 fwt; and I like that stock well enough that I have two, on a 223 and a lightweight 280.
I will ask, have you handled that stock yet? I think the stock is great, but not everyone likes the VERY slim foreend. If you want a lightweight stock that looks like it was made for a M70 fwt, it might be worth checking out the Bridges stock marketed by Hill Country rifle. Utah708 has one.
Anybody who seriously concerns themselves with the adequacy of a Big 7mm for anything we hunt here short of brown bear, is a dufus. They are mostly making shidt up. Crunch! Nite-nite!

Rick is right, I do have a Bridges stock, but for a short action. I also have a Compact and the Echols Legend. They are all different enough that I have some opinions about my preferences, and could put a bit of a photo essay together if it would be helpful to you, Bob.

Utah708-I'd sure love to hear/see the photo essay if and when you have the time.
Also what is the over all length of the 3 for short action M70's if you have that info available?
Thx

Bob,
If you like slim & trim stocks, you'll like the Hunter's Edge.
I put one on a Win Classic Sporter and it's really nice........it'll be even better on a new or pre-64 FWT.
It's about the slimest & trimest available...close to the Rem MR patter, but with a more open grip.

Took advantage of Rick's sale to order a pre-64 Montecarlo in EDGE for a factory pre-64 Featherweight barreled action in .30-06. Not a popular pattern, but it fits me like a glove, and since I have a Classic in .375 H&H in the same pattern, I figure that's a matched pair to ride the river with. May be selling some others soon enough. It's gonna be a long wait though.

Rick/Utah:Thanks for that tip.Yes,I have handled the Bridges pattern and like it but the grip is wee bit too open and swept back for me;just a different "feel".It is a very nice stock, though.Think I will go with the Compact Edge. Is there a picture of one out there anywhere? I have seen them b-4,but need to refresh my memory. I am not concerned about the wait;when it comes to rifles I am not exactly "deprived"

I have a battery of pre 64 M70's and use them for hunting. Although I have a few composite stocks on other rifles I saw that manufacturers were making SS rifles with composite stocks.
Thus I went to the Kimber Montana's.
To each his own.

Savage: The only way I know of to "improve" a pre 64 for hunting is to add a good synthetic to it.Agree with you on the Kimbers, though. I really like my 257 Roberts
