Do the white elevation and windage marks on a Williams receiver sight represent any specific movement at any specific distance? Or is it just a matter of trial and error to adjust the sight? Would it depend on the barrel length and front sight height? Thanks

I think barrel length would matter greatly as far as how much point of impact is moved by moving the sight one graduation. I have several williams peep sights & one has clik stops like a scope & on the package it sait they were 1/4 moa cliks. Doesnt work out that way with my Guide gun.
The way I see it, the shorter your barrel, the more any given adjustment will affect point of impact.
Front sight height would be irrelevant as far as adjustments go, so long as its the right height. So far for me its been 50/50 for front sights. On two guns I needed taller ones & on 2 they origionals are fine. I guess I'm saying its trial & error, although the lines do help you see how far you have moved it.
I mostly stick to a load once I find one I like so for me they all work fine. If you shoot alot of different loads from your rifle you might want to get the Williams with the clicks.
Even tho they dont corespond to 1/4 inch on my gun they are predictable. In other words, if I switch to a different load & need to go up say 6 clicks & right 8 to zero it, I can go back by going down 6 & left 8 & it will be rezeroed once again for the other load.
Hope this helps.
