Does anyone know if someone out there makes synthetic stocks and forends for #1's? I have a k-1a walnut and stainless in 35 whelen (250 made) but I hunt with it. It has a decent piece of wood on it and Id like to save it. I havent found anyone that makes them.

Bell and Carlson makes a set that I personally don't find very attractive, and MPI makes a fiberglass set that you can fit and finish yourself (they'll do it for you too, but for $$$). Those are the only ones I'm aware of. Good luck.

Putting plastic on a no. 1 is kinda like incest under any conditions!

I have watched a couple fleabay stocks sell for under $100 bucks for some pretty nice wood.
I'd go that route if it were me. AGS is another path.

Would a laminate stock hold up well in your Alaska weather? Of course, Ruger will not sell you one for your #1 but, if it works for you, you might look into the after market laminate suppliers. Only a few of them around and some have the ability to reproduce any stock you want.
The laminates on SS actions are not quite as ugly as the synthetics -- but the purists will still object. I have SS/laminate #1s in 7mm-08, 7mm STW, and .375 H&H that I would hunt with in any weather, anywhere. Oddly, none of them have needed 'tweaking' -- beyond trigger work-- for accuracy either.

Both of the stocks linked above look good to me. One tarted up just right might be fabulous on a #1. I like and can appreciate the blue and walnut my #1's have. But I also think the laminate/stainless is very pretty. A nice fiberglass stock wouldn't look out of place on one to me. But I may not have the tastes of a traditionalist here. Too bad for me both my #1's carry blue and walnut I guess.
Then again, those MPI stocks cost enough to pay for another #1. So which would I rather have, a tarted up #1, or two wood/blue #1's? I would likely go with a factory laminate over the custom stock route at those prices.

I sent a 1V to Ruger for a forearm replacement and when I was on the phone with them I asked if I could get a laminated buttstock & forearm set put on it. Was told that would be "Custom Work" and they don't do custom work.
Turns out they put a forearm on it that matched the beautiful buttstock, rifle had a sraight grained forearm. I was very happy!

I had a similar experience as you did Ohlsen. I purchased a NIB model (forget the designation right now) that had the beaver forend and called about purchasing an Alex-Henry forearm as I had intended on general carry hunting in mind for this rifle. Was told that they would not sell me a part that was not originally equipped on the rifle from the factory.
I really like Ruger's products but that kinda left a bad taste in my mouth.
