Well I broke down and ordered a GAP - I really shouldn't have but what the hell, you only live once!!

Here's the specs:

GAP Templar action = .308 caliber, spiral fluted bolt, tact. bolt knob, double pinned recoil lug

Bartlein 5R stainless barrel = 1-11.25" twist, 22", #7 contour

McMillan M40A1 HTG - sniper fill wt, 13.75" LOP, molded in Dark camo, pillar beded w/7075 pillars, 3 studs

Rem 40X trigger = tuned to 2.5#

Badger M-5 DMS bottom metal and magazine

Badger 20 MOA base and Badger 30mm rings

All metal Cerakoted in Milspec OD

This will be my long range rifle. Looking to top it w/ a US Optics SN-3 1.8-10x44mm scope.

Wow, I am impressed. I was just this minute looking at those rifles. They appear to be a fine work. I know you will like it.

I plan to have a custom rifle built in a year or so. I am proud for you.

300mag,

why not just get a crusader in less time or have you seen the neskia a3/5 308 george is selling on the hide? that is one amazing rifle.

for a rifle like you are building i would get a a3/5, a5 or manners t2

Shootone,

I looked hard at the Crusaders, but I wanted a long range/hunting rifle. I'm really not into the A3-A5's - wanted a hunting style stock with differnt molded in color besides the GAP camo (I have a GAP camo stocked rifle already).

Build time will be a little longer than a Crusader, but will give me some more time to save up the coin !!

My build is damn close to the Crusader specs - just a little different: different stock & color, and a upgraded trigger (Rem 40X over standard Rem).

I seen the Nesika rifle - LOP was too short for me. I definetly thought about it though!!

I'm excited, but I am starting to second guess the M40A1 HTG stock I ordered - comb may be too low?? Looking for a "hunting tactical" stock if there is such a thing??

May change to the A3 (eating crow ShootOne!!) I have a Sako 75 McMillan and love the higher comb and cheeekpiece. I hope GAP will let me change my stock order!!

300, shouldnt be a problem to change the stock order. no way mcm already has it started.

just from a personal note, i too a couple years ago was scared of the a series stocks built my first heavy on an htg. guess what??? that gun is now getting bedded in an a5. to me the htg is too low with a 20moa base rings and 44/50mm scope. i personally like it with med talleys and a 40mm leupold, but that kinda defeats the purpose.

i am a big fan of the a3/5 as well. i would have no problem with a heavy a3 or a3/5 hunting rifle, like you i was hesistant at first but have grown to love them. drive one from a prone position then get behind the htg and tell me which one you prefer.

in fact im building one now a a3/5 fast twist 243 for fun and lr whitetails

wade 243 all the way destroys the 308

ShootOne,

I just changed my stock order with George G. from GAP - here is what I went with:

A3
Non adj. cheekpiece
sniper fill
fixed LOP at 13.75"
texture on grip and forend
molded in "dark camo"

I feel really good about the change!!!

PS - You told me so - LOL!!!

I have a couple of George' builds and I don't think you will ever regret getting yours!

I have basically the same build [mine is a Remington action] and you made a good call on going with the A3 stock.

George builds some lasers , so let us know how she does....it WILL be worth the wait!!!

Between 'friends' and myself we've 8 GAPs, and yes, they are by and large VERY accurate, though several (WSMs) are essentially single shots through atrocious feeding/extraction.

Your .308 in the listed blueprint should be a fine rifle; that's GAP's bread and butter.
