I just found a deal on some Howa 1500 youth rifles. They are blued with a black synthetic stock. I bought a 243 and a 7-08 and was wondering if anybody knows what kind of stock they have on them. The are not plastic and not Houge, they are some kind of fiberglass or synthetic. They seemed like decent little rifles for just over $300. It also seems like the actions have had some weight shaved off them.

It's not, by chance, the black wood stock that used to come with the youth package, is it?

I have 3 full sized Howa's with blk syn stocks, 2 are SS and the other is blue. They are the best bang for the buck, out there right now, in my opinion. Good luck.

I took a closer look at them and I believe they are painted wood stocks.

Academy sports outlets sell the Howa youth rifle in 243 and 7mm-08 for 389, w/scope. I believe they are synthetic stocks.

True now, but hasn't always been the case. For the price Burleyboy got them for, I doubt they're current production. The current 2-n-1s I've seen on the shelves have been $500+.

The previous youth models were painted wood. I have one in 243 as well with the hollow bolt handle. The 2n1 youths are now sitting in Hogues. Nice bang for the buck I think.

I went to Academy a couple of days ago and handled the Howa youth model they had for sale, the stock seemed tacky and to small for the rifle, in my opinion anyway. The clerk told me that a couple of stores in town had 223s, but advised to call them before making the trip. They also have the Remington 700SPS youth model for 429.
