My Pop in Law killed this old buck today. I missed it twice on the other side of the woods and it ran right to him. He didn't miss! He batted over .400 all through high school and can still swing a shotgun. I would have loved to have had this deer on my wall but look at PIL's smile that is worth a lot right there. Old school he just whacked the horns off and hung them up in the rafters with all the rest.

Great buck in front of the hounds, never know what your gonna get doggin them. My little eleven yr old brother and myself teamed up on a six point about 12 inches wide, then 10 minutes later a doe runs across the cotton patch and I let a pards son borrow my little brothers 20 gauge to kill his first deer. Not about running them down, but the fellowship, and the suprise of whats going to bust out. By the way we hunt near tarboro, how bout you?

Nice to see a good buck killed in front of the hounds. I grew up doing that in SC and still have fond memories of those days and the fellowship of the hunt club, the shirt tails cut for misses and the blooding of the young boys when they got their first one! I have small children now and am thinking about joining a dog club here in Louisiana so that my kids can experience all that I did growing up. I think hearing the hounds roaring through the woods is much more exciting for a kid than sitting in a box stand for hours on end - though I love to do both.

yep we still love to turn out. Jumped this buck right in front of his house w/ two beagles and a small female walker. They ran this deer over two hours, twice through the swamp and back. This deer almost ran over our neighbor who was out mowing on his lawn tractor. I was setting in a tripod looking over the fields and he came and stopped at the edge of the woods looking for which way to run. I shot and missed! Musta got a little shook as it wasn't but 225 yards or so and i had a good prop. Hardly bothered him and he turned and went right back through the dogs.

Fats, you can probably hear us on the VHF we are hunting about 15 miles SW of Tarboro.

"YOU CAN'T EAT THE HORNS" is what my pappy always used to say. I used to hunt rabbits with dogs, but never deer. Very exiciting way to hunt deer I bet.

you are right can't eat the horns, but alot of the old timers will not shoot the does, any way more deer than there are rabbits here in north carolina.

Hey trigger, I go through rocky mount on 64 hwy, anyway I will
not be able to hunt much over the holidays, Can't get of work, maybe you can go next season. We have about 12,000 acres and we don't mind guests! Shotgun only though.

Congratulations to your father in law on that nice buck. Here in CT we have another snowstorm following the one Friday that left us with 9" or more. By the time this is done its going to be too much for me.

I will go out Monday or Tuesday perhaps but not far.

Again congrats.
