I have a pre 64 FW 30/06 that came with a 4X Kolmorgen Bearcub.I understand how you feel about the rifles and scopes, because I can't bring myself to replace the scope, either.

Sharpnel... I as well like going vintage with my scope setups on my 70's (when pratical). I have really found a liking for the J. Unertl Hawk 4x and teh J. Unertl Condor 6x scopes... the only exception I am particular about when I am hunting with them because I am not always sure they will not fog up in the wrong weather.... SO I do have a few with new leupolds on them as well....

I like your setups.

I'm enjoying reading all the post. I have gone back to deer hunting with my pre 64s after a several years of trying other rifles for a change. got a couple of decent bucks this year with my '06 featherweight. I'm in the process of a near "twinkie" rifle in 270 except for the scope is a 2.5x8 leupold instead of a 3x9 leupold. good luck with your endeaver Sako!

Great thread. My pre-war 70 will hopefully be complete soon with scope in hand and rings and bases on the way. Can't wait to get it all together.

Very cool. I used my FTW '06 this year to kill a doe. There is no reason to not take them out hunting.

Sweet rifle, and scope.

I love hunting with my Pre-64 Model 70's. The Featherweight 30-06 is the one that gets the nod the most of the time. It is so slick and smooth and just seems so balanced compared to other rifles. Mine wears a Leupold VXII 3-9x40mm which I put on to replace the scope that was on it when I bought it 20 years ago. It came with a Bausch and Lomb variable and I just didn't care for it much. It was the detachable type with the adjustment knobs on the base. The scope could be removed from the bases via a quick release spring system and could be replaced without the scope losing its zero. It was a decent looking scope for the period but the glass in it was just not as clear. All the other hunters on our property just swoon over the rifle every time they see it and would all love to buy it from me.
There is just something about them, kinda like a Jeep I guess.

It just dawned on me the real reason I use pre 64 Mod 70s and 94s, 99EGs, and Mausers is because I have had them since about 1945...That makes me a pre 64...:)

Ray, your rifles may be pre-64's, but you are bound to be a pre-44! Merry Christmas!
