A buddy has offered me his old rifle. For a price of course

It is a Sako AV in 7 rem mag. I have found very little on the AV model, other than it was manufactured in the 80's.

The one problem is that he has painted it in desert camo :(, the whole thing!!!!

What can anybody tell me about the gun???

Synthetic stock? That would be a fiberclass - with the Mcmillan stock. Might be worth looking at..

The Sako A models are some of the best Sako ever made. Get it! All the Camo mess can be undone!

If it is a factory synthetic stock then it is indeed a Fiberclass and the stock was made by McMillan. I'd agree that they are some of the better Sako rifles ever built.

Street value in very good condition without having to deal with a mess of a paint job would be in the $600-$700 range. With it, I bet it'd be hard pressed to fetch $550.

What's he wantin' for it?
