Thanks, I have a copy of Keith's writings on the 400 Whelen too.
He often referred to it (at least prior to WWII period) as his "favorite" cartridge, but the more stuff I read by him, the more often I saw him name other rounds as his "favorite" cartridge. I've had the same problem with "favorite" girls.
Neal, do you think that the 1924 date Keith alludes to is a mistake (he made lots and lots of typo's in his articles...the editors all complained about dealing with his writing)?
I ask because I believe Col. Whelen credited a 1926 date as to when he loaded and shot the first rifle (although of course it was some months in the making before that).
Contacting the NRA is the next step (I'm a lifetime memeber like most of you here).
So many of these articles are now in PDF format, that sometimes asking here on a forum lets me find the article in a few short hours.
