I understand the basic designations, but can someone please post what is a #1AB, #1AE, #1AH and whatever else is out there? For example, what would a #1 in a light sporter, A. Henry forearm, without sights be designated for a .270Win.? Thanks.

Thanks "e" for the link. I do have their catalog. But some of these variants for Lipseys or Davidsons can be both real practical and collectible.

The .270 you are asking about is the 1AH. Very rare early production. Big $$.

Geeze, the CRS is getting bad.... I used to be able to roll off a complete description of almost all of the #1 variants, but not any more. Maybe El_Numero_Uno will see this thread and jump in. He basically knows about everything there is to know concerning #1 model designations.
Here is something I found on another site, BUT it is NOT all inclusive; there have been quite a few special runs through companies like Lipseys, Davidsons, and others:

The Clayton Ruger No.1 book is the easiest best way to start to learn what all the Model/Catalogue designations mean. Problem is that there has been a bunch added since the book was first published. You asked specifically about a couple that I might help with; the 1AE generally refers to the .30-06 100 year Centennial-Engraved, as it is an Engraved 1A. The .270 you describe and inquire about is, as McKnight77 notes, big $$ and early production. To my knowledge, there was only one made, serial# 30, for Stan Terhune, of S, R & Co. It was a 24" lightweight(or "A" weight) with out sights and with an Alex Henry forearm. It is of the same configuration as the recent Lipsey's Exclusive in .25-06 that was called an AH. The only lightweight barrel .270 made since then is the one known as the 1A with 22" barrel, AH forearm and sights. I should not overlook the No.1 RSI in .270, which has been in the Catalogue since about 1982. It is a 20" lightweight barrel; the "R" is indicative that it came with Rings, the "S" for Sights and the "I" is for International, or the full length forearm. A bit of trivia; the boxes of the very first RSI's are actulally marked as being a "AI". Now, I even begin to confuse myself!! There is logic to it, but some knowledge and understanding of Rugers system is required to muddle through. Good Luck, ENU

Thanks #1. I would just settle for a #1A in .270 Win. or 30-06.
