Any sign of this happening?

I keep hearing from friends, dealers and others that they have "heard" Leupold is bringing the 3X back, but nothing official.

I doubt they'll bring it back. But....

I have a Leupold M8 3x that is in great condition optically, not so great cosmetically that I might be convinced to part with. It's been back to Leupold for cleaning, adjusting and testing already and passed with flying colors... pm if interested...

I'd be very interested in reading a Leupold Market Analysis on a 3x scope.
Outside of a bunch of campfire loonies, how many other people would spring for a new Leupy 3x?

Ever see the ebay response when someone lists a 3x? There are lots of folks capable of seeing the obvious... wink

I saw the odvious many years ago. My 3X has sat on three different rifles and one very hard kicking, light shotgun. Always delivered the goods. Has the least flare of any single coated scope I've ever used. That's probably because the objective lense sits so far back in the barrel.
If they do come out with something, I for one, would like to see the excellent 2.5X Ultralight brought out with a longer tube.

A 3X30MM about a foot long with a red brick-sized eyebox. While we are dreaming make it sell full pop retail for $299 shipped to all 57 states...for you B.O. fans...

I am a HUGE fan of the lightweight 2.5X 20mm tube Leupold. A 3x might be even better if it were a straight tube scope.

458-

Grab JB and have a heart to heart with the Leupold people on the subject. A 3 power with new lens coatings would be awesome for my old eyes!

JB wrote in "Rifles and Woodsmoke" about a year ago that (my quick synopsis) Leupold realized that the 2.5x was doing well, the 3x was very far out of production, and that there was no reason to reinvent this wheel.

Leupold Marketing, may have had second thoughts, however.

Like maybe making a 3x scope that when they upgrade the VX-III line.

JB and I have been talking with them and they at least seem receptive. I'll be bending their ear at SHOT next week as well.
