I guess that it depends what and where you're hunting. I've always thought that a mid-70s vintage GMC Motorhome would be a pretty cool p-dog rig for the smoother parts of the Rosebud or Pineridge. Other than that, it is hard to beat those old pre-1994 Jeep Grand Wagoneers if the going isn't too tight or just about any Suburban if the going isn't tight at all.

Yeah, you ought the see the Isuzu Dmax GM is making for overseas. It looks like a Chevy Colorado with a 3.0 liter Turbo Diesel. The perfect little brother to my '02 2500 HD DMax/Allison. However, like my present truck, this little truck would need a lift kit and a computer module. http://www.isuzu.co.jp/world/product/dmax/http://www.4x4isuzu.co.uk/index2.html

I got more than one rifle cause I don't hunt the same pasture all the time.Same with huntin' wagons.Idrive a 4x4 Dodge with Cummins. It will pull my flatbed trailer with an old Jeep rigged for West Tx.[can't tow it,it's auto trans].It will pull my gooseneck with 2 horses in back and living quarters in front. It will pull my old pickup bed trailer full of camping stuff.
I have less than 20 K in all this combined. In fact, that includes the horses!
All this stuff works fine and suits me.Might not be good enough for anybody else.
'bout forgot my little Mazda 4x4 pickup. That prob'ly puts me over the 20K.

A guy in OKLA uses a chevy TRACKER 4 wheeler. It will go a lot of places an off roader mule would be necessary. Not perfect but cheaper then some. Not all are 4-wheel and he has the removable rag top on his.
There is no place like home. Western Oklahoma.

I bought a 1990 Toyota Landcruiser a couple of years ago to haul a boat and go hunting with. The boat launches here are mostly moss and slippier than S&$t. The landcruiser will go just about anywhere and comes with lockup diffs and is built lika a tank. The cd, a/c and rear heaters add a touch of luxury when you are kicking mud off your boots. The things go for i think over $50k knew byt have no resale value to steak of. I payed $4000, and did some work to it, brakes and an oil pan gasket-I am a mechanic and it didn't cost me much. The thing sucks gas and is a dog on the highway-but off road nothing compares. Just my 2cents.

I currently use a Jeep Grand Cherokee with the Upcountry suspension. It has a very tight turning radius for its size, and will tow my 24' trailer to hunting locations where I can be independent. I have never been anyplace where it couldn't get me out of. I even (stupidly) ran it out on the salt flats out side of Salt lake City once and sank in the mud almost axle deep. Luckily 4 wheel dr Lo was able to pull me out (sprayed a lot of muck though!). It's getting old, however, and I need a few more horsies to pull the trailer. I'm considering the Rover LR3 or the new Jeep Grand Cherokee, each with upwards of 300hp. An alternative might the Hummer H3, but I'm concerned about turn radius. I've thought about a pickup, but it always seems to rain when I hunt, and I like the idea of having my equipment inside.
Recommendations anyone? Does anyone own an LR3? I know they are new, but I've never had any experience with the Rover brand. The car and truck rags rave about the vehicle, but they are prone to rave about anything new.
I'm open to suggestions.

We use a 93 GMC Yukon 2 door with a 5 sp, not an auto, seats four and pulls an 18' camper with no sweat, it is Throtle Body but never had a problem with a TBI moter, wish it had a winch but hasn't been a probem yet, got it used from the state for $6,000 with 80,000 mi so can't complain

budget vehicle: a well set up square-eyed jeep wrangler with hard top, back seat removed, rhino sprayed in bedliner cotaing the interior instead of carepet, over-spare rack and over-top rack and extra lights front and back. by well set up i mean just enough lift to run 31-inchers, 9-inch clearance by pumpkins, lockers fore and aft. i like the round-eyed ones, too, especially on the road, but there's just something about the old-school simplicity of the square-eyed wranglers. that short wheel base lets you turned around in about as much space it takes for an atv to do the same. i think you could buy a good used one for less the 5k, put 2-3k into it, and leave the rest of that 20k figure for a prime lease or big-time hunt.
