I'm new here, so please bear with me. I have been reading all the posts I can about the 99 and can't quite reach a conclusion as to what I have in my safe. I was hoping to tap the brain trust here.

The barrel is marked "Model 99E, Series A" and has the Westfield address.

I keep seeing references to pre-mil and post-mil, which I have concluded to be "million". This rifle of mine has serial number "D7390XX", so I assume that makes it a post-mil?

I am confused, however, by references to post-mils and tang safeties because this one has the rotary mag, without cartridge counter, and lever safety only.

Can anyone offer an estimate of when this was made?

It is a nice shooter, even though the stock is that stained hardwood number with impressed checkering and the odd pseudo-beavertail forend.

It is a postmil, looks like a model 99E made in 1981. It's probably one of the better postmils since it still has the lever safety and rotary mag.

Postmil means the serial number is higher than 1 million, or starts with a letter. The 1 million serial number happened in 1960.
